Will I be able to make /copy dvd’s with this DINOSAUR?: Has worked fine to burn CD’s. Haven’t done any video editing yet. I know any such editing will take a while, just wondering IF it can be done on such an old machine.

ABIT-BH6 motherboard
PII @450mhz
512mb PC100 ram
STB- TNT 1 16mb video card
300 watt PS
160mb 7200rpm Western Digital 8mb cache Hard Drive/ using ATA100 controller card bundled with hard drive. (NEW 2003-12)
BTC DVDRW 1008IM (Labled MagicSpin DVDRW8D) on first primary IDE controller by itself. (NEW 2003-12)
Norcent CR-RW burner on second IDE, and internal ZIP dirve. (About a year old)
XP-PRO..on first primary partition fresh install NTFS, with NO extra apps running in the back ground. Disabled most all the extra play pretty features of XP to make the system as fast as possible.
Dual boot to WIN9SE (Second primary partition, formatted as F32) using the boot loader of XP to load OS. (with no extra apps running in the back ground )
Hey guys,

I have a similar situation, and wondered what the actual minimun specs have to be to get the 1008IM (Specifically, the MicroAdvantage 8DVDRW-B13) to work?

My current situation (Bad, I know):

Gateway E-3200 NLX Desktop
Jabil Maverick 440BX (OEM of the JN440BX) 100Mhz FSB Motherboard
PIII 450Mhz CPU (Slot 1, Upgradable to 1.1Ghz....yeah, like I'll find one of thse cheap)
384MB PC100 RAM
ATI 3D RAGE PRO AGP 2X Video Card (Integrated)
LIte-On 523275 52x CD-RW
2 Quantum Fireball 8.4GB IDE HDs
1 Seagate Barracuda 9.1GB SCSI HD
Iomega Jaz (SCSI) Drive
Adaptec AHA-2940W SCSI Card
200W Power Supply (Actually, it may be 150W )
WinXP Pro SP2 (lots of services are disabled to ease up on memory)

I know, I'm pushing it as is, but what can I expect from an install? (Data only, Video......thermonuclear meltdown?)

Even if my system won't cut it, what has?

My guess is the drive will work for dvd data, and for cd's. Recompiling dvd's using dvdshrink will probably be too slow to be useful. Maybe try looking on eBay for a processor upgrade, an 800 MHz pentium III would help this system a lot.

Re: What are the "REAL" minimum specs needed to install the 1008IM?

That's good news, as Data was the most I was really expecting here. (Anything else would be icing on the cake)

Insofar as the processor goes, I am looking for a minimum 800Mhz-1.1Ghz (100Mhz FSB) slot 1 Pentium, but the right price hasn't come along yet.

Thanks, though.
