Is your drive recognized in BIOS ,and with what firmware? If it is ,then try to boot in windows xp safe mode and then uninstall the drive or all the drives from device manager and let Windows find them all over again after restart.I hope this will help Cheers Nikos

@napts : nope it doesnt .. in safe mode the system freezes, in normal mode it just reboots... @everyone else .. I tried just about anything.... I have switched between all cable methods... primary master, slave, secondary, none works... I even went back to earlier firmwares 043 and even 042 but to no avail.. Something in this drive is making my pc reboot... I'm typing this now with my secondary IDE channel turned off in bios that is the only way i can get into my pc ! :S I'm thinking about a reformat, that is overdue so this will be a good reason to do one know, but if that doesnt help, then I'll call my helpdesk to pick it up (still have one year onsite) and i'll buy myself a dvdrw that does work... I just dont understand how this can happen...if you read what i did to ghet this error... just updating a firmware the way im supposed to ?!?!?!?!? Ow well...hope reformat helps.... Greets

reboot problem i had same problem as i tried to uninstall the ide device :-) i thought let's see if windows auto detects something different than already installed. i solved prob by system restore (saves you formatting and new installation of xp) by the way.. my 1004 is also a cd rom ... only burning programs like nero see that it's a dvd drive. can't read most cd-r's no cd rw's (blank and written) no dvd rw's and dvd-r's. this started suddenly, think my drive is broken, will return mine and get new one.
