V0047 FIRMWARE TEST RESULTS: POST THEM HERE !

Purpose of this thread:
if you still have problems when using the V0047 firmware, I want to know about them.

Please post here all the relevant information in detail (version numbers of software, model names of home DVD players or DVD-ROM drives that you found problems with playing back, Kprobe test results, etc. the more details, the better)

But, before you do that, please check our First Aid Kit carefully first to see if you have followed all the tips.

First Aid Kit for troubleshooting your DVDRW drive:
http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread....threadid=79667

Please keep your posts short and to the point, including all the relevant information.

Also, make sure that your PC doesn't have any clashing software problems, so preferably use Nero with the latest update (either 5 or 6) to test.

Because I found out that sometimes even some media with the same MID codes could have different parameters, I would like you to post the whole MID code as below (you can use DVDINFOPRO for this).

So posting format as close to the below example as possible:

Brand name: Verbatim
Media type: DVD-RW
Burnt at: 2X
Complete media code:
00000000 00 6C 00 00 01 40 D6 FD 9E D8 21 00 02 0E 08 06 .l...@....!.....
00000010 88 85 0D 00 03 4D 43 43 20 30 31 00 04 52 57 31 .....MCC 01..RW1
00000020 31 6E 39 00 05 06 88 85 0D 00 00 00 06 10 0B 05 1n9.............

Burn software used: Nero 5.5.10.33
Number of media tried: 3 pcs.
Burn result: 3X OK
Verification result on DRW1004: 3X OK
Verification result on home DVD Player brand/model ................. : 3X OK
Verification result on DVD-ROM player brand/model ................ : 3X OK

Kprobe results on DRW1004 : ......................

etc.

Please do NOT post any messages here that are related to other firmware versions !

No Problem

Here I have the results for the PHILIPS DVD+RW
Media code/Manufacturer ID PHILIPS 041
Format Capacity 4.32GB(4.63GB)
Book Type DVD+RW
Media Type DVD+R
Media Id Code Speed 4.0x 5540KBps
Linear Density 0.267um/bit
Track Density 0.74um/track
Number of Layers 1

This could be written at 4X and is readable without errors. PI/PO is not good at all:

As at nearly all of the tested DVD's it starts quite good, but the PI-Rate increases the whole time and is to bad at the end of the DVD.

The maximum allowed for PI is 280 if it should fit the specs.

How on earth did you manage to get such a nice result with this media? I know the C1/C2 scan could be better, but compared to my results (look above for the K's Probe scan) it's quite amazing.

Marco
Any comments? How is this possible?

Peter

I don't have the media in my office, but PHILIPS.041 should be supported now.

Anyway, bitboy0, can you show the complete media code, so we can check if it's 100% the same as the Memorex that PDU used.

Once more

in fact the results for the PRINCO DVD-RW(V1.1) has not changed dramaticly since my first try's ...

After a complete deletion of the disk and burning with 2x the first third of the disk sometimes is readable ... the second third is slowly readable with lots of errors and the last third is just unreadable.

I'm not able to test tis disk with kprobe because it jumps over far regions which can't read.

PI starting with values from 500 and ends up over the clowds in the sky.... PO begins with more than 500 and ends up in the highs also...

I posted this issue in another thread but this may be a better place to post it because it involves v0047:

I've noticed a problem with my BTC 1004M drive when inserting blank or non-blank disks. The BTC 1004M will take a very long time (>1 minute) to recognize the disk. Sometimes I eject then reinsert the disk. Eventually the disk does get recognized and I can read and burn it. I've most recently noticed this on a couple of CompUSA brand (MID: Princo) disks, one DVD-R and one DVD-RW and on an Imation DVD+RW (MID: RICOHJPNW01) disk. I also encountered problems erasing it in Nero (errors), although I was eventually able to erase and burn it. These MID codes are supposedly supported in v0047.

Some questions:
What does the drive specifically do while it is recognizing the disk?
Any ideas of things to try?
Could this be an issue with how Windows XP and the drive interact?

Important info:
System: Athlon XP 2000+, 512Mb RAM, 20/100Gb HD
OS: WinXP home ed.
BTC 1004M firmware v0047, set as Pri slave.

If you could give me an answer quickly, it would be greatly appreciated. I am coming up on my decision date (14 days after purchase) as to whether I keep this drive or not. I'm leaning towards keeping it, but this apparent problem with recognizing disks has me a little nervous, especially since I had to return the first BTC1004M that I had bought (it died).

Thanks.

If the 1004IM is slave you must have another drive set as master. Have you tried the BTC as single drive, set as master? Just to see if it makes a difference?

Another thing you might try, is to start Windows in failsafe mode. This will prevent most drivers from loading - except the ones needed. If the drive still takes more than 1 minute to recognize the media, I think it is defective. You could also just boot from a DOS disk.

Does this only happen with recordable media? What about a DVD-VIDEO disc or some other non-recordable media?

Cheers,
Peter

As I reported for firmware v45 in this thread:
http://forum.cdfreaks.com/showthread...536#post490536

Firmware version 47 burns my DataTrack DVD+R unreadable. That is, after burning my DVD drives reconize it as an empty DVD disk.

When I posted my findings I wasn't using DataTrack disks but "Yi Jhan 001" DVD-R disks. I havn't tried buring to these "Yi Jhan 001" DVD-R disks with firmware v47, but when I do I will post my findings.

You never stop to amaze me. How on earth do you manage to burn the TYG01 with such excellent results?????? Beats me! Not possible with my 1004IM What motherboard/chipset are you using (hope I didn't ask you this before)?

Though I agree that firmware 0043 seems to produce better quality burns, the ones produced by 0047 is still well within the standards. Remember, PI < 280 and PO < 32. So no wonder they are working in any device you try them in. You have nothing to worry about - though it would be nice if results with 0047 was as good as 0043.

Cheers,
Peter

Hi Marco,

I read all this information with great interest. I bought my BTC 1004, a month ago in germany.
Firmware is 0.47.
I used verbatim 1-2 which is from cmc and verbatim 1-4 which is manufactured from mcc.
Both are fine and I can read them without problems in my dvd player from mustek.

today, I bought a german brand "Intenso" dvd which is manufactured by MBI
k-probe PI beyond 1000 and this disc in unreadable in my mustek.

I have a very new plextor DVD writer in my office and also intenso media which is without MID and K.probe is smaller than 100.

So my question is, how can this happen?
The plextor is able to work without firmware update with that intenso, the result is ok and the BTC with firmewarte update produces an unreadable DVD?!?

How can plextor manage that so much better?

To support you here are the data from that unreadable intenso:

marco, it would be fine to get some response from you. I am keen to understand, why plextor can manage what BTC is today not able for.

regards, juergen

This is exactly what all the people are missing! A really good reason why some of the media couldn't successful used by the 1004IM but the same DISK is perfect in another drive. To say "it's a to cheap thing" is not a solution. In fact it can't be to bad if another drive can handle it that way.

Because of the 1004IM is perfect in other disciplines and can write perfect to some media it is probably the FW! So the Hardware seem's to be real good - even better than most others. But the guy's who made the FW should take some days of vacation and than they maybe be able to do a better piece of software.

So for ME the drive stays to be a good choice. But we all have to remember ... modern hardware is like a banana...

The banana becomes ripe at the customers home...

an additional comment from me,

when I am right, the MBI-media is on the media support list.
From this point of view, it is a shame, that the 1004 is not able to burn a reasonable disc. I can only agree with you bitboy0, that marco should give us a real explanantion and a view for the future, what we can expect or not?!?
