| Problems with DVDRW IDE 1008IM I just upgraded my system to the BTC IDE 1008IM I have tried 3 different models all with no luck in the following functions, I tried 2 Emprex DVD 8x DUAL's and now I have the same drive badged as a PIKA ONE, One thing I noticed was that while the Emprex boasts 8,4,4,4,12 the Pika one boasts 8,4,4,2,12 But this means nothing to my problem, My old CDRW drive worked fine, but with the new drive, it will read any disks, but I can no longer Write, or Erase CD-RW disks in the new drive and the drive will not touch the DVD+RW disks I have although according to BTC they are supported (OPTODISK OP1) I have tried CloneCD, Nero 6 (OEM and the Upgraded version from the website) and Microsoft Media Player Software that blows MP3s to CD/ CDRW. With the Nero 6 with the DVD +RW disks I get the error Formatting Disk - Formatted ok. Started Write Illegal Disk Has anyone seen this and does anyone have any idea how to get the drive working correctly? |

| I've only seen the illegal disc message when using very low quality discs or unsupported discs. Have you tried other better discs to see if it's the drive or the media that is causing it. Optodisc is generally crappy media.

| Problems I am having Ok, fine It may be because I am using PC-LINE DVD+RW disks (PC World own brand) but I have never had any problems with their media before, But when I am also having problems with Phillip CD-RW and Memorex and Liteon CD-RW media and none of them are working at all (but the problem with those is erasing them or even when it shows the CD-RW being erased succesfully then says "the disk you inserted is not empty" when you try to Write on the newly erased (or not) disk. ) For the DVD+RW disk here is the Nero error report. | I am running Windows XP Pro with all the latest updated (hence the XP 5.1) I am running the latest Nero ASPI driver my WNASPI32.dll is version 2.0.1.59 The Drive has been Secondary Master, Secondary Slave and is currently Secondary Master with Cable Select ( I saw something about that on another post ) as I am using an MSI motherboard with the latest VIA drivers (Updated yesterday). The winaspi dlls are only in the Nero Directory I do not have one installed in Windows\System32 at the moment (although I tried copying one there earlier - same problem ) What worries me more is the lack of being able to erase CD-RWs as the Nero software says it has done so, but the disk hasnt been touched..... I have also tried it with a Secondary Slave attached and not. It does write CDR and DVD-R with no problems It's just the RW's it doesnt like. I spoke to BTC and they upgraded the FLash BIOS from 158 to 258, when no results they upped it to 358 (I have been in touch with their tech suppport) |

There really isn't much within the burner or its support software that is unique to RW media. Chances are that it's a media problem. | |

| I find it hard to believe that media that worked fine in my 48x 24x 48x CDR/-RW drive suddenly won't work on my new "Better" DVDRW drive, Specially as the new drive supports CD-RW at 24x as well. These are all HighSpeed CD-RW's. I just tried wiping the CD-RW with The old drive (just to make sure) - This time it shows as empty. Trying to Write at 10x Sticks for ages at 41% (the Drive buffer hasn't started filling yet) Then fails - error below as you can see the same error as with the DVD-RW disk, a SCSI error - What version of wnaspi32.dll are others working with - I have what seems to be the latest 2.0.1.59 Windows XP 5.1 IA32 WinAspi: File 'Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.59, size=160016 bytes, created 17/06/2003 14:25:04 ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Program Files\Ahead\nero\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.59, size=160016 bytes, created 17/06/2003 14:25:04 Nero version: 6.0.0.16 (Nero Express) Recorder: <DVDRW IDE1008> Version: 0358 - HA 1 TA 0 - 6.0.0.16 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 1 Drive buffer : 2048kB Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ATAPI CD-ROM: <DVDRW IDE1008 >Version: 0358 - HA 1 TA 0 - 6.0.0.16 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 1 === Scsi-Device-Map === DiskPeripheral : Maxtor 4D080H4 atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: On DiskPeripheral : ST330621A atapi Port 0 ID 1 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : DVDRW IDE1008 atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: On === CDRom-Device-Map === DVDRW IDE1008 F: CDRom0 ======================= AutoRun : 1 Excluded drive IDs: CmdQueuing : 1 CmdNotification: 2 WriteBufferSize: 57671680 (0) Byte ShowDrvBufStat : 0 EraseSpeed : 0 BUFE : 0 Physical memory : 383MB (392688kB) Free physical memory: 135MB (138296kB) Memory in use : 64 % Uncached PFiles: 0x0 Use Static Write Speed Table: 0 Use Inquiry : 1 Global Bus Type: default (0) Check supported media : Disabled (0) 4.5.2004 CD-ROM (ISO) 00:20:02 #1 Text 0 File Isodoc.cpp, Line 5907 Iso document burn settings ------------------------------------------ Determine maximum speed : FALSE Simulate : FALSE Write : TRUE Finalize CD : FALSE Multisession : TRUE Multisession type: : Start multisession Burning mode : TAO Mode : 1 ISO Level : 1 (Max. of 11 = 8 + 3 char) Character set : ISO 9660 Joliet : TRUE Allow pathdepth more than 8 directories : TRUE Allow more than 255 characters in path : TRUE Write ISO9660 ;1 file extensions : TRUE 00:20:02 #2 Phase 89 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1843 Super Link activated 00:20:03 #3 Text 0 File Reader.cpp, Line 118 Reader running 00:20:03 #4 Text 0 File Writer.cpp, Line 127 Writer DVDRW IDE1008 running 00:20:03 #5 ISO9660GEN -11 File geniso.cpp, Line 3861 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 00:20:04 #6 Text 0 File Burncd.cpp, Line 3169 Turn on Track-at-once, using CD-R/RW media 00:20:05 #7 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 230 Last possible write address on media: 359848 (79:59.73) Last address to be written: 32832 ( 7:19.57) 00:20:05 #8 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 235 Write in overburning mode: FALSE 00:20:05 #9 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 1878 Recorder: DVDRW IDE1008;
