Did you try to download the flash directly from the BTC website and run IDEFLASH? I worked fine for me.

Yes,

That IDEFLASH program doesn't recognize any of my drives... At the top where you select your 'target drive' none of my drives are listed... And I have a CDRW and this what I believe is the BTC 1008 dvdrw drive...

when i say none of my drives are listed, i mean NONE... The pull down menu where you select your drive is totally blank.

You might what to insure you have the most recent version of your chipset drivers. Another thing to try is email marco about getting the dos version of the flash utility. I have even heard of people putting there drives in PIO mode and were able to flash and then switch them back to DMA mode.

Unseen drive

Most patching software will only see drives connected to the main IDE controllers. Some motherboards have additional controllers beyond the common Primary and Secondary controller. It isn't uncommon for flashing programs to not see devices connected to the alternative controllers. My Gigabyte MoBo can handle an additional four drives on a GigaRAID controller. While that controller can handle CD/DVD-Rom devices fine, I've never seen a flashing utility that can address a device hooked up to one of those controllers. Move the drive to one of the primary or secondary port connections and it'll work.

Confirm.

On my mobo there is an additional Promise IDE/RAID controller chip which provides another two IDE channels. No flash program I've seen up to now will find an OD connected to one of these ports. In my current configuration (no RAID) they're not bootable either.

Whenever I want to flash one of the ODs on the Promise controller, I have to switch it temporarily to one of the regular IDE ports.

Well, thanks for the suggestions, but actually, the drive is connected to the secondary / master on the main IDE controller. I'm not sweating it right now, cause the drive seems to work fine, but it would be nice to move up to the current firmware.

Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.

You may have this drive:

It lists in XP as IDE1008

Re: Do I even have the BTC 1008 drive?

Same problem here, and yes it is packaged as MicroAdvantage.
Drive is labeled DVDRW-1008IM and F:0055.

Nero info saw drive correctly, with firmware correct at 55.

But the BTC update firmware did not work, and was unable to select any drive from menu.
I saw listed a version for USB, and gave it a try.
Bingo!
Upgrade saw drive and upgraded it.
Now the problems.
It is now seen as USB in drive ID.
Nero no longer sees DVD's as DVD, but now as Data.
It is an Internal drive, not external USB.
There must have been a batch of drives that were flashed with the wrong firmware?

Solution was to use MTKFlash in dos, and flash an IDE bin to drive.
It is now correct at version 59, and reads drives properly.
I even did end up putting drive in an external USB 2.0 case, and it made no difference.
Drive is still seen as DVDRW IDE1008
