| "Combo Ide5232co" firmware Well, a few weeks back, my COMBO Ide5232co CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive just "stopped working" out of nowhere. It worked the day before, I went to bed (shut the comp off) when I woke up the next morning, I was greeted by about 30 seconds worth of "green light" flashing on my CD-ROM drive. So, I guess the drive has power. The CD-ROM drive IS showing up in "My Computer" as normal. But, when I put a CD in, all it does is blink the green light for about 30 straight seconds, as if it's trying to read teh CD. I've tried many different CDs, my XP CD, data CDs that I burned, Music/Audio CDs, Music/MP3 CDs, it wont take anything. But, there is NO errors that pop up. I posted about the problem on another forum, and they suggested upgrading the firmware. well, a google search for "Combo Ide5232co" gets me nowhere. So, they then suggested a program called EVEREST, It looks similar to SANDRA, but anyways, EVEREST has detected my drive as being linked to this so called "Behavior Tech Computer Corp." at www.btc.com.tw/english/index.htm But yea, as I found out from using teh search function on this site, as also going through their site, they don't have any of their firmware there....so, that's what lead me here ![]() I e-mailed their tech support and they linked me to that LiveUpdate site, but it's horribly slow....wackget reports 0K/sec speeds..lol So, when this is done, this LiveUpdate should be able to "fix" whatever went wrong on my drive? |

| Re: "Combo Ide5232co" firmware Flashing Firmware cannot resolve hardware problems. Clean the drive/lens and test the drive in another computer.

| Re: "Combo Ide5232co" firmware Ok, well I got the firmware installed. About the InstallService...it was because I had the DCOM Service Process Launcher in services.msc was set to "Manual", so after setting it to "start" mode, the installer worked. So yea, I ran LiveUpdate, it downloaded and installed the firmware (i guess), rebooted, and the drive still won't work. But it's definately spinning the CDs. I went out and bought this Philips Laser Lens Cleaner, Recommended for DVD, Keeps optical laser lens clean and dust free". And well, normally it's supposed to play Audio, but of course it wasn't. But it was definately spinning. Any other ideas? |

| Re: "Combo Ide5232co" firmware Hey, I have exactly the same symptoms as the rest of you...one day, my drive stopped reading cds of any kind..or dvds. Device managers "sees" the player, the disk spins, but nothing comes up in explorer under "d" drive. I checked the Bios, upgraded the flash (from the BTC) site...even bought a $22 lens cleaner form my friendly radio shack (He said "Trust me, I'm a techie") guy. DId cleaning the lens help? Other ideas? Just a crappy drive that needs to be replaced? Thanks, Fletcher |

| Re: "Combo Ide5232co" firmware Well! What do you know, I've found others who have a problem or two with this device. My problem is that, whilst it will read CDs (haven't tried DVDs yet) it refuses now to write, giving me the message that there is no CD in the drive when, of course, there is 'cos I just put one in. I would be extremely grateful to anyone who can help me to fix this problem! I'm not going to hold my breath though as this thread seems to be visited but seldom.
