About 1004@1008

I've reading the mods done to the liteon 401s/411s to 811s, and i found a little problem when I think about my btc.. The calibration data in the eeprom.
We haven't a program like the Ltnflash to extract that data or modify it like Zebra did for the liteon people. Has our 1004, x8 calibration data in it? Don't think so.. and that's mean a x8 burn is a sure coaster. Appart from that, I've read that the laser diode for x4 burning is 14mW, and for x8 is 30mW. The liteon burner seems to have a 30mW laser from the very begining (the 401s), but rumors say that 1008 has other laser than 1004..

Anyone has verified data in any of these topics?

The only reason I have used the 1008 firmware is better support for the media that I actually use. Another thing to keep in mind is that even though the 1008 is an 8X drive, it's next to imposible to find any media that it can actually burn at 8X. In my opinion, the 1008 is just another 4X burner, and not a good one at that.

People with liteon 811s or 851s , modded or not, are burning +r x4 media @ x8, and doing -fine- burns. I don't think the btc hardware is inferior in quality than the liteon one.. so, the problem is firm? Calibration data? Could be that our lasers are ill calibrated?

I would not count on that quote being true, I would rely on Lite-on over BTC any day!
