Why do they even bother with such a ridiculous amount? There's no way allofmp3 can pay that. Hell, the GDP for Russia last year was less at around 1.5 trillion! This only makes the RIAA look more money grubbing and selfish to demand this much.

That's not a big enough amount IMO - they should round it off and go for 2 trillions.

What a joke. Last I heard US law didn't apply to Russia. They did, however, block their entry into the WTO over this. I hope they don't shut down, just to spite 'em; kinda like ThePirateBay.
More laughs for us at the RIAA's expense - I like that idea!

Re: RIAA Sues AllofMP3.com for $1.65 TRILLION

The common perception, was that allofmp3 was legal under Russian law, due to:
1. A misinterpretation of the term "performance". where the downloading was considered to be a performance - rates increased after that particular loophole was denied.
2. Administration by ROMS, the Russian equivalent of the RIAA, of the collection of any royalties due at ROMS rates.

In general, it was usually thought that those licencing terms did not cover those outside that juristiction - in short, only the international users of allofmp3 have done wrong, and justice and honour would be best served by ROMS increasing their relatively low rates, and the RIAA reducing their extortionate ones.
