Greetings everyone,
I just resolved a problem that has been annoying me for weeks. Most of your are far more computer literate than I, but just in case I can save someone else some aggravation, here is how I was finally able to remove Quicktime's stupid Public Preview Installer so that I could install a newer version of Itunes/Quicktime.
I received an Ipod for my birthday last summer and installed the accompanying software. Several weeks ago I tried to update to a newer version of Itunes/Quicktime. Unfortunately, the update screwed up my PC. I tried to remove it, but it would not go away. When I tried to unistall the old Quicktime or install the new version I would get an error message saying that I first needed to uninistall Quicktime Public Preview. I tried deleting everything, cleaning the registry, etc. but nothing worked.
Tonight I was finally able to find info on Apple's website suggesting that I download Microsoft's Windows Installer Cleanup Utility (
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/). I downloaded and installed the software. When I ran it I found and removed two old versions of Quicktime, and another labeled Ipod 2006. The installer cleanup tool worked like a charm. I got that crap off my system and was able to install the latest versions of Itunes & Quicktime. Assuming that nothing else bad happens, I'll finally be able to use my Ipod for the first time in months.
I hope this info helps someone else. Have a good night.
