One of my friend in Korea recieved email from RIAA

I guess he used eDonkey to download Maxpayne2 Keygen and one day he recieved email from RIAA which included all information like when he downloaded, what file he downloaded, and his ip address.

It's kinda scary because Korea is not even U.S territory

Maybe thats why they only sent him email but didn't any charge on him

In some way, I think he's lying because he won't let me see that email but it might be true

Who knows

Huh? Strange. probably your friend is lying as RIAA has nothing to do with Keygens and serial #s for software. The only ones who have the right to go against this is the actual software company that has the copyright to the software.

Despite the war on the axix of evil , The US of A still do not have any jurisdiction in Korea. Even if it was a legal email , the only thing the US could do is ask the Korean government to aid them in tracking you down.

I think they both might have more important things to do

Games and stuff is handled by ESA (Entertainment Software Association) and not the RIAA. Either way they have no jurisdiction over Korean citizens as has been mentioned.

Anti-piracy groups can get your IP address, but the only thing they can find out with that, is who your ISP is.

The only way your friend can receive a letter directly from the RIAA, MPAA, etc is when his ISP gives his personal information to them. ISPs will probably only do that when they know that they get sued themselfs if they don't give the information. If that's not the case, then they will never do that, because you have a right of privacy and ISPs will lose a lot of clients if they find out that their information will be given away to anyone who wants to have it.

The last i heard here in oz was that Korea was giving the good ole US of A the bird concerning their nuclear policy. I couldn't imagine what they'd do if the US asked for them to provide details of how to extradite one of their citizens

Admitting that you've illegally downloaded movies/songs and need help to process/burn is comparable to robbing a bank, and walking into the bank the next day holding the bags of money to deposit them into your account.
