Is my idea for sharing legal?

All known P2P software have different views in many different countries, the RIAA is against it and most countries made it illegal to download music.

The principal of P2P software out and available today is that one machine acts as both Host & client while anoter acts as the first ones opposite and files are transferred, shared, and permanently stored on the machine that was client.

WHAT IF....
Say there was a Database, a huge one, with people's lists of MP3's or movies or files and IP's of their personal servers running. All the website would provide is the info and destination of the source for desired music, but NO actual connection would be made. It would be up to people to log in on their own free will and download what they want.

Would this be legal???????????
It's just a reference (like an encyclopedia) not a direct link and download set-up.

I don't think this is any more legal or illegal than the current P2P networks. This sounds much like the system that Audiogalaxy had (and that one was forced offline by a judge)...

Yes, but in my system the software does not provide connectivity. AudioGalaxy found and conncted you to another user.

My way, you have to actually start an FTP client and have FTP software running if youw ant to leech or share. Even a simple softwar elike AIM can be used for file sharing, but you would have to on your own free will log into someone else's account and download what you want.

Thats how my idea is different.

Okay I see..

As a matter of fact, you are just offering possible download locations for possibly copyrighted files. Seems illegal to me, as providing sources for illegal downloads is. If this wansn't illegal, FXP boards and such would be legal as well... and they aren't...

Nice try though

This is like the guy who doesn't deal drugs , but knows all the dealers and can give you directions.

Good idea, but it wouldn't last for a week in court.

Here in the states, that idea is actually legal. It holds water. many things are starnge that way to me, its illegal to use a Police Scanner while driving, yet its okay to sell and buy them. Same for illegal cable boxes...etc...

Thats why I brought it up, and since RIAA is prelevant here in the US, I figured this would be a nice runaround for them.

AT Best....

At Best, you'd be declared a linksite hosting legal and illeagle links in the states. At best.....Legal forces would review your links....harass those that offer illeagle d'loads and then harass you to remove that link.

Infact, if you got noticed, you'd be inviting legal action to the sites posting links on your site, if the d'loads were not "legal".

Icing on that cake.....your now back burner in thier radar....

Sorry for sour view....but this is how it works.......saw the same in porn when i used to write those kind of sites when it was almost anything goes.....
