Kazaa

It is my understanding that Kazaa downloads are legal. I paid for the program with the assurance that it was legal.

Kazaa

I paid about $25.00 for the program on a disc. In the info they claimed that the downloads are legal.

I have relatives in Glasgow, Edinborough and Falkirk...My mum was born and raised in Scotland...beautiful country!

Well there is not free version of Kazaa for $29.95US but you download it, I guess. I think it is a piece of crap when there is K-lite which can do the same thing for free (the last time I checked, which was a couple of months ago).

<cough><cough> Legal my ass. THe RIAA has been sending out notices to big time users. I am using FTP now and in the process of figuring of how to use Usenet instead of P2P.

I believe its "sharing" between 500-1000 tracks but, people have been busted for alot less than that.

Yes as little as six I think; there are two things to consider, well actually three...
One: if using KAZAA then don't share a folder.
Two: Kazaa-lite has been said to not show your IP....not confirmed by me but heard.....
Three: USENET......if its not "out there" then use KAZAA in some form to check on peeps who are not yet USENET wise.

Also for you video-junkies; check Blockbuster's "thirty-day" policy.

Well, this obviously works for a couple people but if everyone does that then no one gets anything....

You can easily see IP with tools built into Windows, and third party applications as well.

I just don't get it. My news server only has ~600 messages at a time, and so any large files are only partially available.

Hey,
Yes it works for some. Sorry it had to come to that but jail sux....lol
As I said, not sure about the Kazaa-lite deal. I am using it and not sharing...
What news server are you d/ling from? RoadRunner has all that Easynews has only with a three day limit on titles. Money talks.

And no Blockbuster in your neck of the woods? They don't have music but their video selection is second only to Hollywood Video. At least in my hood.

Cheers!

Everyone can still get pretty much whatever they want through IRC, it's just not a community and not the best quality

if i were a musician i'd want everything i produced to be free when i died. not like giving away cds but like go ahead and download all my songs type of thing.

i don't think music company should be slapping 10 year old kids with law suites they should try to offer more. like enhanced cd's with behind the scenes videos or maybe something free comes with the cd. no they went the other way and sabotaged most of the songs. there's a fat screech in just about all of the nirvana songs.

Wha? Whoa, you guys seem to be lost...

If by hiding your IP w/ K-lite you assume that suddently ipconfig can't find ur IP, ur wrong. That's not at all what is meant. By seeing your IP, the person who is seeing it is the RIAA, thats obviously a bad thing.

There are legal downloads with Kazaa, but they are few, and they are not songs. Why anybody uses Kazaa nowadays is beyond me. Well, sometimes I get a little porno, but other than that....

Also, what difference does it make if you have relatives in other countries or where your mother is born or how beautiful Scotland is? The US copyright laws dont even care if your in the US or not, so the RIAA could go after "foreigners."

i don't know about downloading porn from kazaa. too easy to get mislead and download some child porn. it could be a music video or something and they could name it dog prn or something. or it could be dog prn and they could name it after some music video. and most often if u download a picture thats named after a number like 3.jpg then it's most likely porn.

Where did ipconfig come from?? We know what we were talking about, and you restated it.

...what, a guy can't express an opinion? All he did was make a statement...indeed Scotland is beautiful. but this had nothing to do with legal issues.

From what I understood, if you disable SuperNode in KaZaA, as well as sharing (disabling uploads), you should be safe. Like BRPR said, those tools will reveal your IP - no doubt. Compare it to sending files over AIM [AOL Instant Messenger]. Sure, you can't see the IP in AIM, but if you run netstat from the command prompt, bingo. I read somewhere a while back that the RIAA is sharing songs online, and that if you download from them, you will get sued....can anyone confirm that this is true??
