Increase Upload rate using ABC Hi I am using ABC as my bit torrent. I am letting people upload from me (as one should) Normally I have about 4 (films) uploads running at one time. What I don't understand is that whatever the files are I am always uploading at a rate of about 29kb/s in total. What I would like to do is configure it so that I can let people upload a total of about 100kb/s Can someone please explain to me how I can do this (if it is possible) Cheers

Re: Increase Upload rate using ABC Your upload rate is limited by the capacity of your internet connection. I'm guessing that your internet connection has a 384kbs upload speed. Upload speeds are always slower than download speeds. The only way to increase your upload rate is to upgrade to one of the more expensive rate plans offered by your ISP.

Re: Increase Upload rate using ABC Sorry for showing my ignorance here........ If, in your opinion I have an upload speed of 384kbs then how come it is only using 30kb/s? Surely I'd be able to let people upload at a higher/faster rate?

Re: Increase Upload rate using ABC No worries here, no need to apologize. ISP's typically rate internet connections in terms of bits... not bytes... This makes a very big difference in real world numbers. In a perfect world, 384kbs would equal 48KB/s, however no one ever get's the full amount because of overhead. My 384kbs upload connection typically runs at 320kbs after factoring for overhead. It isn't a good idea to devote all of your upload speed to torrenting. Leave some of it available for browsing, email etc. etc. It might also be a good idea to reduce the number of uploads, as it will only take longer to upload multiple files than if you were to just upload one at a time. Hope that helps.

Re: Increase Upload rate using ABC 29k BYTES per second would be about what you'd expect from the typical ADSL upstream of 256k BITS/sec. If it is a 256k up, then you are close to saturating it, and more stable results would be achieved by lowering the limit - if you can achive 29k at full blast, then set the limit no higher than 28 - maybe actually 26, and reduce the max uploads so each one gets a bigger share. 5-6 would get a more balanced throughput, unless serving clients on dialup connections. Just depends, if you want to max-out the upload, then just clip one small step from the maximum to avoid the rate-cap, while if you want to download, leave enough in reserve to avoid delaying ACK returns.

Re: Increase Upload rate using ABC Thank you very much for all your advice. If 29k is about what I'd get whatever I do then I might as well not change anything. BTW, the reason why I would like to increase the upload rate is that I use a boxing torrent site that basically has rules that you cannot download unless you upload as well. So, the more I can upload the more I can download!!! Personally I think it is a very good idea and that it stops the leachers.
