Not necessarily...or have you forgotten about the possibility of downloading copyright free music and movies...

Re: download programs....

Limewire and its opensource cousin Frostwire are the best if you don't want to spend time configuring, setting share and so on.
If you are willing to do that, however, the best ones are IMO Reverse connect ( www.revconnect.com ) and Azureus (to be used with torrent files). Many people are happy with emule, too.

i like ftp a lot. You don't need to look for it as well. It's on your Windows XP system! Just go to start, run, type in ftp and click ok.

Glad to be of service.

As long as he hasn't flat out said "I want to download the latest Robbie Williams single" or something, we assume he's not trying to download illegal stuff.
What he does with our suggestions is entirely his responsibility.

Re: download programs....

As suggested, Bittorrent. Here is a good site:http://ts.kurtubba.com/ .You will need a client, Azureus is probably the most widely used but memory intensive. I use BitTornado. It's good and very easy.

Re: download programs....

I use BitSpirit, it is a very good and relatively small client.

Re: download programs....

While we're on the subject: I use Azureus, which I really like for its decentralized capabilities. But it's really a memory hog, and I'd like something less hungry. How do other clients support DHT?

If it is illegal to exceed speed limits, why is it still possible?

Usenext! Not only is it a great way to find other types of files but you can download entire dvd's and complete cd's of videos, images, music, software, everything imaginable. Its not a scam and after trying kazaa, limewire, and countless other peer to peer sharing software, I have found the quality of the sound files is superb in comparison to what you get from the others.

Another place to find mp3 downloads where you can download full cd's is http://www.mp3search.ru/. You set up an account and make a deposit and can buy whole cd's for as little as $.80 or just download the songs you want from it. Unlike simplemp3.com, you don't need netpumper or anti-leech software plug in to help you. Its guaranteed virus free. I have been using that one for over 2 years and have never gotten a virus download or parasite.

I have gone to battle with many sites and using many types of peer to peer software over the years. I've been armed with firewalls, anti hijackers, antivirus programs and anti-spyware programs to help me through it all and it has just gotten to be too much of a chore to go through all that just for a program or a song. I haven't had to reprogram this pc in 2 yrs since I wised up to Usenext and http://www.mp3search.ru/. I most certainly think they are worth the few dollars to spend to use them. Peace of mind is priceless knowing your not going to get more than you bargained for.(If ya know what I mean).

And with all that, my last comment: never stop using your battle gear in any situation. Keep using those anti-everythings! In regards to being illegal, I don't spend much time worrying about it. But if bothers you then just don't download anything. Buy it off the shelf in a store and your really safe. Don't make copies for your friends cause thats illegal too now days.

Peer to peer with any music or software is illegal. If it wasn't, you wouldn't need peer to peer programs at all. If you can't find it out in the open on the net with out a "buy" tag, then its illegal. Catch my drift?

Now that could be quite illegal.

How about the fair, easy and fast deployment of Linux distributions?

Why would you want to download a Robbie Williams single?

Ok, thread is going off topic too much.

I'll close it for that reason.
