Re: What CDRW drive, gets past most of the latest copy protection?

I have Plextor Premium fw 1.05. It perfectly make 1:1 backups for SD-protected games (2.?? and 3.xx). Backups normaly runs on NEC DV-5800C DVD drive without any emulation. And backups run on TEAC DV516E normaly too.

Re: What CDRW drive, gets past most of the latest copy protection?

Hi,
I couldn't find satisfactory posts about my burner and after burning three duds, the burning question is:
Is an ASUS CRW-522A burner up to the job (EFM etc) of backing up DOOM3???

Re: What CDRW drive, gets past most of the latest copy protection?

Yes, it can encode EFM correctly and should be able to backup Doom 3 and other sd 3.20 games. Download a trial of alcohol 120& and read and write with the safedisc profile at 4x to create a good backup.

Re: What CDRW drive, gets past most of the latest copy protection?

Alright it's getting near my birthday, and just reading this thread lists many cd-RW's which still doesnt give you just 1 "best", but which is the 1 recommended CD-RW that can make a working backup of MOST games and I mean its ok if it takes a long time to just backup 1 particular type of protection. Bah I'm sleepy so I just KNOW im not asking the right thing.

I don't care if this particular CD-ROM takes forever to backup all the CD-Protections out there instead of just 1 that it does really well.

So far as what I've read the Plextor Premium can do all of them decently well. And its the only one that does SecuRom 5 (or was that safedisc ughh!). Anyway...

Basically if you could only have ANY one and only ONE CD-RW to back-up games, assuming you had every game of each kind of protection which would it be, and what set of programs would you use for each kind of protection.

Phew... I hope that came out well. (oh and yes this is to make working BACKUPS not illegal copy's)

Re: What CDRW drive, gets past most of the latest copy protection?

plextor premuim is definatly a good choice, it is by far not the only drive that copies SecuRom 5, as most drives can make "twinpeaked" copies, but plextors are 1:1 and very relyable. it makes ok copies of SafeDisc 3.2, just dont expect the copies to work in your other drives. Plextor Premiums are also quite expensive (around $100)

Re: What CDRW drive, gets past most of the latest copy protection?

I got mine for £50, but i think it went down as soon as i bought it lol.
Brits- www.dabs.com
US- www.ebay.com

I think a plextor premium and a lite-on dvd rom drive is the perfect combination.

Re: What CDRW drive, gets past most of the latest copy protection?

Perfect combo:

Ltd-166s
Plex Premium
Plex 8x SCSI (with certain TLA) or Asus 5224As

That covers all securom and safedisc games, plus playing backups in liteon.

Have you try to make a backup with this drive on the game with SD3.2??, wait and see whether it can or can not . Give us the result to prove it, I have got 1 cyberdrive and it sucks.

i've read where almost all dvd burners are crap when it comes to making backups of protected game CDs etc...so i think you'll need to wait untill someone can confirm they have had good success with their brand of dvd burner

yep, that seems to be very problematical, even plextor doesn't want to bring out a usefull DVD burner, looks like they still want to get some money for their CD burners, so they don't add functions that could make DVD burners to burn protected CD and DVD games properly...

not certain, but i think it also has a lot to do with various limitations currently inherent in dvd burning hardware

Re: What CDRW drive, gets past most of the latest copy protection?

i think it is that dvd burners cant write in RAW mode, ony DAO (i think this is the only mode that will work with safedisc)

Re: What CDRW drive, gets past most of the latest copy protection?

that are only bad news that after all make me only harder to choose...if I only had a choice to test all DVD burners before I buy it it'd be much easier, but I don't have that choice, so I think that I'll choose I don't know what, they say that lite-ons aren't good, but what else is good!?

Just found out that some guys had success to burn safedisc 3.2 protected games with next drives:
- SONY DRU-500A
- LG GSA-4120B
- Toshiba SD-R5002
- Pioneer DVR-108 Firm 1.10

Probably I'll choose one of this if someone else can't convince me to choose any other DVD burner...and thx for help!

Re: What CDRW drive, gets past most of the latest copy protection?

Is there some type of thread for a list of DVD writers that bypass most game protections?

Hi pcgamer,

there is no thread about DVD writers, but I think some are using DVD writers in this thread. So maybe you'll read it another time .

edit:What's your DVD-Writer?

Seems that Pioneer DVR-108 is one of the best, so probably I'll buy this one and hope that it's really good...

Re: What CDRW drive, gets past most of the latest copy protection?

Hi,
Pioneer DVR-108 is good for SD 3.0x/3.2 ? you are sure of that?
that's *only* a 1 "sheep head" burner, not good at all usually for last SD... and in CDRInfo/etc test, it didn't get higher than 2.51 too (!)... that is standard and normal for 1SH burners though.

On the other hand,
- Liteon 1633 (and 'old" 832s..)
- LG 4820/4860
... are the only one to have 2 SH certified (for dvd burners last gen)!..

Anyway, for last SD, now, 4SH are required now, to be really "safe" more or less so (fromù what i understood too, so...) !...

And fr that, there are indeed not at all a lot of choices available today !!:
- Liteon 5237s (or soon new 5238s so?.. ) IcdrwI
- Liteon 5232K ICDRW combo + dvd-rom readerI
- Toshiba R5272 (indeed!..) Iold gen dvd+-r, max 8x, no DLI

.. and the one you quoted above too so, certainly! nice collection so... The Liteon 4SH doesn't seem to be the most precise in practice thought, from what i read here too (copies ok, but not readable very largely too so.. less than others 4SH apparently. but already good too so with the right reader combo thereafter so)

But the Pioneer DVR-108 ?... sure so? only a question /firmware so (i'm asking too here so.. interesting!!) -?

PS:
an interesting url here about "sheep heads", can be useful sometimes-? :
http://www.clonyxxl.net/moderatori/l...ult.php?page=a
(""Codifica EFM""...)

Re: What CDRW drive, gets past most of the latest copy protection?

Did you say the 5232k get SD3.0+? Mine does NOT when I use it to read and write.

Do you need to use a different reader? Which reader do you suggest?
