Not sure, sorry... I do not own NWN, and I think my friend has already sold his copy.. I'll see what I can do though, since I think this NWN patch is the most worried about problem right now. I'll post anything that I find.

Well I am really going to throw a spanner in the works I to am looking to buy a new drive and in a similar postion and watching the conversation unfold. Armed with all your comments I went shopping today determined to buy two drives, best of both worlds I thought At the counter I asked for the Lite-on and the new Plextor. Why the Lite-On was the comment He suggested the Philips PCRW4012K built he says using Asus guts, superior to the Lite-On was the comment. I must say it's a very pretty drive and a tad under £100.00 I walked away with the Plextor and came back to the forum for a second opinion on the Philips any comments on the Philips Guys

I made a working backup of my WC3 disc with the newest version of CloneCD on my LiteOn 32125w@48125w. I used the LiteOn as reader and writer and the backup works in all of my drives (LiteOn Burner, LiteOn 52x Cdrom and NEC Dvdrom). It seems there was a problem in older CloneCD versions that made it impossible to get a working backup of WC3. So upgrade to the newest version of CloneCD and your problems with the newest version of Securom are gone. Use the securom settings to backup the game.

Greetings
Jordi

ASUS guts should include the Mediatek chipset. If you want to back up reliably then a Philips won't cut SafeDisc 2.51.021+ and some Liteons (don't kill me) have trouble reading subs at speed.

Philips use their own chipset/controller so I can't see them using ASUS 'guts'. I wish OC-Freak were around...

Asus CRW-4816A vs MSI MS-8348

Hello everybody !

Asus and Msi sell a cdwriter 48x/16x/48x .

It's the same model ?

Are they based on a Philips model ?

Does anyone has the MSI 48x/16x/48x ?

Does MSI burn and read everything ?

thank you !

My 24102b does it with clonecd but fails with cdmate. (Admittedly, my particular writer is a little unusual; fp reckons it was made on a different planet from his equivalent.)

Most drives can burn the new SecuRom protection just fine. There were only some problems with the Lite-On drives that didn't read it reliably. This has been fixed with the custom Profile. I've burned SecuRom new with many Plextor drives and every copy worked. Also tested the Yamaha CRW-F1 which could read and write it at full speed without any problems!

OK! Thanks G@M3FR3@K
LiteON is out.
Plextor (maybe W4012A) is my next burner or has anyone something bad to say about it and something good about ASUS (maybe CRW-4012A) or LG (maybe GCE-8400B). I know LG is the cheapest.

The ASUS and the Toshi 1202 DVD/CD-RW combo are reliably known, across the board, to do the latest SecuROM as well as the latest SafeDisc 2. The Plextor (in 99.99% of cases) can't do SD2 from 2.51.x onwards

LG owners will argue about this but there are too many LGs that fail at SD 2.51.02x

Liteon owners will also argue. I have the 24, 32 & 40x models which work fine. But, there are too many instances of failure at NWN or WC3 for my liking to categorically state that they are perfect

Well a lot of people are struggling to get working copies of the latest new securerom new protected cds with their Liteys (fortunately, I'm not one of them) so I'd have to say that, as good as they are, they're not perfect and you may well be out of luck with tha latest versions of securerom if you buy one.

After reading all of this information, are you saying that the Lite-Ons and ASUS CDRWs are the way to go for burning games on CD-R and CDRW discs?

I'm on the fence with ASUS, but like the Lite-Ons. Does the 48x-12x-48x Lite-On model 48125W work on Clone CD, Feurio, and Nero?

Thanks..

Buy an ASUS, it's less affected by SecuROM than a Litey and much quicker at reading.

i just bought an ASUS CRW-4816A and it has been working great. I got perfect copies of Morrowind and Warcraft.

It was a great deal too, i only payed 135$CAN for it at NCIX.com (that includes taxes and shipping [and i got it in 4 days])

Heej guys !

I'm thinking of buying me a new burner too, still have the old and back then very good PCRW804K by philips !
One of the very first SD2 killers !

But I'm thinking of the above asus, it's very cheap, only 85 euros !

But when I read all this about new SD 2.8 and securom versions, I wonder should I still buy this one or wait till someone figures out a way/burner/method to copy these protections ?

What can this asus copy in versions pls ppl, sd2.5+, 2.6, new securom on wc3, ut2003 ???? what can I copy with this thing ?!

Well , to my knowlage the Asus CRW-4816A "CAN" burn SD2.8 (futureproof posted that he burnt Sims : Unleashed)

I have been able to burn NWN(not 1.21) and Warcraft 3 without problems.

There aren't any burners that can burn the new securoms , but "if" someone finds a way the asus probably won't have any trouble with it. ( MEGA "IF" )

The CRW-4816a is a great burner and you should definatly go for it.
