sims 2 and alcohol 120 or blindwrite

Hi I have a 6 year old son who is hard on disc and I have made a backup of my sims 2 cd 1. It works fine when I mount it in daemon tools. The problem I am having is when trying to burn a cd from the image the cd goes to splash screen and just sits there and spins for days. I have tried using a liteon 24102b and a lite on SOHW 832s neither of which have produce any working results. Could someone please tell me the proper settings in alcohol 120 on the profile safedisc 2/3 as far as what boxes to check on the read and write settings just incase thats the problem a wrong setting in there. Also I was curious as to where I can get additional profiles for blindwrite since the only thing listed is bad sectors as a profile thats even close. I am using the latest alcohol 120 as well as the latest blinkwrite.

Thanks in advanced

Re: sims 2 and alcohol 120 or blindwrite

Ok Make sure just the iso is saved on to your harddrive in any selected folder.

Then just open up alcohol 120% right click anywhere under
Name/Path in the blank space then, click Add Images.

then you can mount game as a virtual drive.

if you know settings the games should be set to SafeDisc 2/3
-----------------------
ok for burning if it's CD then follow these steps
this works fine i've done it with a few of The Sims Deluxe.
-----------------------------------------

Do following open up alchol 120% don't put in sims disk yet.

File Menu, select Options, then Expand General, click Data Type setting, then click Disc Type (default Audio CD) and select SafeDisc 2/3 instead, then Click Recording Options and check to see if Bypass EFM Error is enabled (by default it should be). If not, enable it then click OK. keep all other default settings. Minimise Alcohol window.

Insert your original Sims Disc One into your CD Rom drive.
When The Sims loads with welcome screen, leave it. Don't play it or exit from it. Just leave it sitting on the Desktop.

Maximise the Alcohol window
Read Speed should say maximise and at the bottom left side the Datatype should say SafeDisc 2/3. If not, select it. Then click next. This next window allows you to choose a different location for your image file and/or change the image name. Personally, I didn't bother. I just went ahead and clicked START with the details it inserted for me.

The log window will list the blocks of data it is reading and on most of them you will see 'Disc read error' while the dumping procedure is in operation. Doesn't matter. When the Image has finnished being made, the original Sims disc will eject automatically and you will hear a finale tune. (this is part of the default settings in Alcohol). Minimise Alcohol window. Do not exit.

Remove The Sims CD.

Insert a Blank CD-Recordable disc in your CD-RW drive.
Windows may prompt you for an action with the blank disc. Just close the dialogue box.

Maximise the main Alcohol window, The Sims Deluxe Image is shown highlighted. If not, highlight it.

Then click Image Burning Wizard.

This will show 'Welcome to the Image Burning Wizard' screen.
Select the Image file you would like to record. By default, this ALREADY HAS THE LAST IMAGE FILE YOU RECORDED in it which in this case is the Sims Deluxe CD 1. So just click next.

This will show 'Prepare your CD/DVD Recorder' screen.
Keep everything as it is. Make sure Datatype on bottom left of screen says SafeDisc 2/3 and Bypass EFM error is checked. If not select both. (These are required for writing as well as reading the protected disc.) It will show the 'recording procedure progresss bar' 1%, 2% and so on. At the bottom it will show your device and its current status as 'Recording..'. On completion it will show a message box, 'All recording procedures have been completed'. Then just click ok. And your perfect copy of the Sims Deluxe CD1 will eject.
Then you can play your backup copy of the game
cheers Kosh
p.s i have a lite-on SOHW 832s dvd/rw+ - with flash upgraded firmware.it works fine.

Re: sims 2 and alcohol 120 or blindwrite

The Lite-On 24102b is incapable of making a backup of any SafeDisc version above 2.7.
Your best bet would be with the other drive.
Also make sure to burn as slow as possible on good quality media.
It may still not work even then though as SafeDisc 3.2 is a very hard protection to copy.

Cheers

Re: sims 2 and alcohol 120 or blindwrite

The hottest news on Safedisc 3.20.022: you need no EFM capable burner to get a copy which works without emulation!! The secrets are hidden somewhere else!
Look what we have been discussing here:
http://forum.alcohol-soft.com/index....c=14001&st=120
(especially the post from pollutedshine).

There are also several users out there who got a working copy with Yamaha F1 and Pioneer A-05 (both not 2-sheppers)

On top of that you may possibly have luck with CD-RW's opposed to regular CD-R's.

Not quite right. It will do 2.8 with alcohol or discdump/fireburner. Can also burn a discjuggler image successfully if image made with a more accurate reader (e.g. a Toshiba dvd). [2.9+ - forget it.]

Seems odd it fails on the 3 Lite-On 24102b's that I tested.
All were using the latest firmware. Was there a particular fw needed for this?

Cheers

Works fine on my old one with either latest firmware (5s5a) or my original firmware (5s54). Of course, my particular Ltr-24102B was never typical of the model. Indeed, it's quite eccentric having both advantages and disadvantages (mostly advantages) over typical writers of that model.

[Btw, you didn't enable Bypass efm error when burning with alcy did you? My particular writer couldn't care less if you do but most 24102b's will stuff up every time if you use weak sector amplification/enhancement.]

Re: sims 2 and alcohol 120 or blindwrite

Nah, I've never enabled bypass EFM.
Oh well, it looks like your Lite-On may have been an exception

Cheers
