Re: SafeDisc 3.20 Successes and Non-Successes

Game: The Lord of the Rings - The Battle for Middle Earth (CD version)
Reader: Lite-on DVDRW - 832S (f/w VSOE)
Writer: Lite-on DVDRW - 832S (f/w VSOE)
Program(s): Alcohol 120% 1.9.2 b1705
Profiles and/or Settings used: Safedisc datatype settings; Read speed - Max; Write speed - Max (24x for cdr actually used)
Results (works/fails in): Works in Lite-on DVD-Rom - LTD-167T
Additional Notes: Only the first cd is protected. Further, the actual safedisc version used on cd1 has been removed. However, it's safe to say that it is either v.3.2 or v.4. Note too that copy untested on my 832S as I don't use it to play game back-up copies and because the game is hot-wired to run only from its installation drive and I couldn't be bothered editing my registry after installing from my DVD-Rom.

Re: SafeDisc 3.20 Successes and Non-Successes

Game: Rome: Total War
Reader:
Writer: JustLink CD-Writer 24x10x40x
Program(s):
-DiscDump V1.10 + Frontend V1.4.1 Package
-Nero 6 Ultra Edition
Profiles and/or Settings used:
- Default DiskDump Settings, speed: 8x
- Default .CUE image burning with Nero, tested on speeds: 8x, 16x, 20x, 24x
Results (works/fails in): WORKS on all above mentioned speeds.

Additional Notes:
-How I burned Disc I of III (the play disc)
I used the deafult settings on DiskDump. It did it's job: it saved a .ISO and a .CUE image. I then used default settings (in simple mode) on Nero 6 Ultra Edition to burn the .CUE image on a regular CD-R disk (see below). It worked perfectly on all speeds mentioned above (24x is the max for my burner).
-How I burned Disc II and III of III (only needed for installation)
These were simple to back up, what I did was use the default settings (speed: 24x) in simple mode on Nero 6 Ultra Edition. Install discs are generally not as heavily copy protected.
-Though the type of disc used probably wouldn't matter, backup worked on both 700MB TDK 48x compatible "Data" CD-R and 700MB HP 52x compatible CD-R. Both worked perfectly.

-----------------------------------------
(harley2ride: try backing up along lines like these, I think it might work although I have little experience with Doom 3, Lite-On should work as well as any, better probably. Use DiscDump and any image burning software. )

Results (works/fails in): Worked without a hitch! Reading and writing both took about 7 minutes apiece!!! Loaded in my LITEON XJ-HD166S successfully; not noticed any errors through play!

PS: Why doesn't anyone have the SW-248F? It's INVINCIBLE, I tell you!

Re: SafeDisc 3.20 Successes and Non-Successes

admittedly i've tested it in only a couple of drives since then but they've worked. i'll edit the other post when i get a bunch of models together.

i ripped the image from the samsung not the liteon, mind.

EDIT: hmmm, intriguing. the game actually loaded and played totally fine from the SW-248F CD-R, too, without any hiders enabled whatsoever. of course, perhaps the game-play will deterioate in-game after an hour or two, but by my reckoning the disc shouldn't have even booted without the hider. hmm...

EDIT: and that's without any virtual drives or alcohol enabled in the background, either.

Re: SafeDisc 3.20 Successes and Non-Successes

Disastrous Adventures Of The Orphans Baudelaire (the french version have Safedisc 3.20.022).

Back-up Result: Success

Back-up PC :
Win 2K SP4
Alcohol 120% v1.4.8.1222
PlexWriter Premium 1.06
Sony DVD RW DW-U10A 1.1d

Method : As I read a lot of bad things agains Premium and SD3.2, I use the Sony to read and write

READING
- Sony DVD RW DW-U10A 1.1d
- Alcohol 120% v1.4.8.1222
- Read spead : 1X
- Profile : Safedisk 3.1
- Fast Skip Error Blocks (Not every device supports this functions) is OFF
- MDS format

It take times to read

WRITING
- Sony DVD RW DW-U10A 1.1d
- Same profile
- 4X

Playing PC :

OS : WinXP SP2, no writer, no virtual disk, no emulation, no alcohol ...
It is a computer just to play games and use office tools.
DVD : an old basic Benq DVD-ROM

The back-up work fine.

Game: Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines
Reader: BDV 316E
Writer: Lite On DVDRW SOHW-1633S

Settings:
-Blindread: extract subcodes selected, extraction method nibble, VSO Driver used.

Works in: Lite On DVDRW SOHW-1633S. This unit reads even the worst copies, I've checked with other games.

Fails in: BDV 316E (sounds odd, but it's true), Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-M1612, Samsung DVD±R/RW TS-H552.

Re: SafeDisc 3.20 Successes and Non-Successes

Doom3 Success!

Software: Alcohol 120% Trial version 1.9.5

Reader: Liteon DVDRW SOHW-1213S
Settings: SafeDisc 2/3 defaults at 1X

Writer: Liteon DVDRW SOHW-1213S
Settings: SafeDisc 2/3 defaults at 48X (Minumum burn speed for this drive is 48X in Alcohol 120%).

Media: Office Depot CD-RW 80min 700MB

I tried several times to write using a Liteon 48246S drive (CDRW) on Verbatim CD-R CD's with no success. The game would lock up right after clicking play in either drive. the CD Read light would blink contantly. Never waited long enough to see any errors.

Much to my surprise, switching to the DVDRW drive and the CD-RW disc solved the problem. I figured there was no way a burn speed of 48X would work, but it did.

Re: SafeDisc 3.20 Successes and Non-Successes

Game: Vampire Bloodlines
Protection: Safedisc 3.20.022 (according to ProtectionID)
Reader: Lite-On SOHW-1633S, firmware BRS6
Writer: Lite-On SOHW-1633S, firmware BRS6

Burning program: Alcohol 120% 1.9.5 (Build 3105)
Parameters: the ones from Alcoholer Safedisc 2.9x profile, that is to say:
-Reading: skip errors, fast skip errors, speed 1x
-Writing: RAW DAO, Bypass EFM Error, Buffer Underrun, speed 8x

Game works (always without any kind of emulation) on Lite-On SOHW-1633S.
Fails on: DVD-16X DVD-ROM BDV316E, LG HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8160B, Acer 650P-072

Timing: as a case in point, it takes 18s for the original game to launch,
39s for the backup.

Yes, I have had another try.
