Re: SafeDisc 3.20 Successes and Non-Successes

I used my Aopen CRW-5232, with Blindwrite Suite 4.5.7.92 to make a working backup of Doom 3 CD1 (SD 3.20)

The copy plays in a variety of CD / DVD drives (but not all)

I've finished quite a few of the single player levels, without noticing any strange behaviour such as flashlight going off/on or any extra tough bosses.

Re: SafeDisc 3.20 Successes and Non-Successes

Hey everyone

I tried copying Doom 3 with my Liteon LTR 52246S cd writer. No luck!! Has anyone copyed Doom 3 with this writer? What settings did you use? Here is what I tried:

first time:
-made image with Clonecd 5.0.0.0
-all the ccd settings were default from a fresh install and I read it at max speed using PROTECTED PC GAME profile.
-I used Alcohol 120% v1.9.2 build 1705 to write it onto a cdrw at max speed with the SAFEDISK profile (not SAFEDISK2/3)
-all emulation turned off....no virtual drives
-result....S*IT! the Doom 3 launcher told me to inster disk 1 (the play disk)

second time:

-read image with alcohol (above version) using SAFEDISK profile at 2x
-wrote it onto a cdrw using the same settings and profile as mentioned above at 4x
-result....same as above.

Any comments guys/girls?

Thanks.

Re: SafeDisc 3.20 Successes and Non-Successes

How to make a back-up image and disc of DOOM 3:
-------------------------------------------------

After much experimenting and reading what the other members have already tried, I was finally successful in making not only a working image file, but also a working disc copy.

I purchased the game on the day of release, and I love it so much that I really wanted to keep the $60 discs safe and not have to be putting in disc 1 everytime I want to play the game. So here's what I did:

Software: Alcohol 120% v1.9.2 (Build 1705) for Read & Write.

Reading: Safedisc 2/3 Profile with 4x Speed selected, .mds file format. Drive is a crappy basic DVD-ROM.

Writing: Used the .mds image file I created, Safedisc 2/3 profile, 4x Speed Selected. Disc was an old 4x CD-RW I had lying around. Drive is a crappy Mad-Dog 52x24x52 I bought for $30.

I had tried this same configuration but with "Maximum" set as the read speed before, but it never worked. It would always fizzle-out part way through the read process. The only thing I changed to make it work was the speed - it MUST be 4x Speed ONLY, for read AND write, then it works like a charm.

I really only wanted a working image to use with the Alcohol Virtual Drive, and when I got that to work, I thought I'd try and make an actual backup disc as an experiment, seeing as how that's what everyone seems to be interested in here.

So there you have it. Easy when you know how.

Simon.

Re: SafeDisc 3.20 Successes and Non-Successes

Game: NHL Eastside Hockey Manager
Reader: SAMSUNG DVD-ROM SD-616F
Writer: MITSUMI CR-48X9TE
Program(s): Alcohol 120% 1.9.2.1705
Profiles and/or Settings used: Writing at 4x using SafeDisc profile

Unfortunately it will not read in my Samsung, or Mitsumi and I get a "Please enter correct CD error." I also tried using the emulation features on both Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120% and I get the same error. Does anybody know how I can go about burning the game or using Alcohol 120% / Daemon Tools to play the game? If somebody knows how I can go about burning the game or playing the game with any of the above emulation tools please list the settings. Or does anybody know a program or how to get rid of the SafeDisc which protects the cd?

Thanks,
Havoc

Game : Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow (SafeDisc v3.2.0.22)
Reader : LG GCC-4480B DVD CD/RW Combo Drive
Writer : LG GCC-4480B DVD CD/RW Combo Drive
Program(s) : CloneCD v4.3.3.1 / Alcohol 120% v1.9.2 (build 1705) (Latest ver as of this posting)

READING:
- Clone CD using Virus2K's method described here:
- Read speed @ 4x
- Note: I even saved the resulting modified CloneCD 'Protected CD' profile described here as "Safedisc v3.2" b/c it worked like a champ!

WRITING:
- Alcohol 120 Safedisk 2/3 profile - Uncheck By Pass EFM Error (as Virus2k's guide says above)
- Write Speed @ 4x or 8x (I used 4x)

Successfully burned working backup copy using only Hide ATIP enabled in Alcohol 120 (i.e. "Ignore Media Type"). Note You cannot use CloneCd's "Hide CD/R media" option as Safedisc 3.x titles blacklist it. Anyhow, my backup ran flawlessly first time, then 4 out of 5 times after that - The one time it failed, I checked "Emulate Bad Sectors" under Extra Emulation tab in Alcohol120 and again it worked fine. A fluke? Who knows? But it works at least 80-90% of the time. My guess is I probably need a better burner than the LG combo drive - From what I've read here on this forum, thinking about the Plextor Premium PX523252, a LiteOn 52375s (cannot find this one) or the new Toshiba SD-R5272 DVD/CD drive that came out recently which supposedly works w/ a LOT of new protections. Anyone have any info or suggestions about these drives or any other recommended drive, please do tell! Thx in advance!

Also mounted the CloneCD image in Alcohol 120% Virtual drive, and again it worked flawlessly! Of course this uses emulation and virtual drive, but the game runs VERY fast this way and seems to bypass Safedisc v3.2 everytime w/o problems. Not exactly a 1:1 copy here, but nothing will do that 100% successfully and is very hardware dependent anyway. Bottom line is my SCPT game runs w/o the original CD, and thats all I care about.

However, the copy DID fail 4 successive times when tried to read in Sony DRU510A CD/DVD burner, no matter if emulation or hide ATIP check was on.

Anyway, I still have a working backup now and can put my original away.
-----------
Intel P4 2.66Ghz
NVidia TI4400 Graphics
LG GCC-4480B DVD CD/RW Combo Drive
Sony DRU-510A 4X DVD/RW burner

Hope this helps a few folks out! I know the info on this forum from everyone certainly helped me out, so many kudos and thanks, esp to Virus2K, several Sr Members and Forum moderators.

Re: SafeDisc 3.20 Successes and Non-Successes

Well, it looks like the LDW-811s cannot copy DOOM3. I have tried several methods with Alcohol last version and none of them have worked. I have even uninstalled the game that was running from the DVDRW drive and installed it using my Pioneer 104 DVD-ROM but no luck here.
Good luck guys, this game is really needing a last generation burner like the Plextor Premium, maybe other Liteons, but I have not read a succesful history of copying DOOM3 with any DVDRW drive yet.

I have used:
Read: 1X/2X/4X/8X, 811s, Datatype:"SD2/3"/"SD", Fast Skip Errors: Enabled/Disabled
Write: Prodisk CD-RW 4X/10X, 811s, Datatype:"SD2/3"/"SD"

Game Installs OK but I get a Windows error when I try to run it. Have installed from my DVDRW and my Pioneer 104 DVD-ROM, no luck in any of them.

Re: SafeDisc 3.20 Successes and Non-Successes

Read with Liteon SOHC-5232k burned with 832s.
Read and burned at 16x with alcohol with FES, and only ignore media type emualtion.
Backup works in SOHC-5232K (shows splash screen until recognition and then launches game)
Backup doesn't work in: 832s, 811s, and Toshiba SD-R1002 (spin continuously unably to verify disc, however no error message is present until I eject the media.)

Any backups made with clonecd reading and writing with wither 832s or 5232k or any combination of the two, result in the same behavior for disc recognition as above except for the 5232k, which almost does the same, it seems to recognize the disc, but no error message is given and it acts like it's going to launch the game but it remains in windows. Stange. This indeed is a tough one.

This is really strange, after some further testing I cant get consistent disc recognition of the combo drive, sometimes it loads right up, others it exerts same behavior as my clonecd attempts, this protection is very picky indeed.

What exactly is it checking for Maybe they've actually improved their weak sector patterns for a change! Too bad I still don't have my 52246s, that one beat eveything I ever threw at it. Latest protections I tested with it was some safedisc 2.9 titles and a couple securom 4.8x titles, beat em both.

It is weird though, why are so many having trouble burning this, I've read many reports of safedisc 3.2 images on hd work fine, but burning them seems to be the issue. It must have something to do with how good of a writer you have, it seems not all liteons were made the same as we has originally thought. Maybe this protection really needs a 3-sheep writer in order for these to work.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All my ramblings and I forgot to say that I was backing up Doom3, whoops.
