SafeDisc 3.20 Successes and Non-Successes

As many of you may know the newest SafeDisc revision, SafeDisc 3.20 is becoming more and more common. These are some of the game protected with it so far to name just a few :

True Crime : Streets of L.A
Far Cry
PainKiller
Splinter Cell - Pandora Tommorrow

SafeDisc 3.15 came as a real shock, wiping out a huge number of burners capable of doing it without any EFM tricks. It seems that SafeDisc 3.20 seems to enforce this even more. This thread is similar to the "List of safedisc 3.15 back-up playable drives" thread, but instead providing users with an idea of the different methods of creating a successful backup. As the successful storys are near and far, it would be great to round them up into one thread.

As also many people know that it is not hard to make a working image with the newest Alcohol or Diskjuggler. But it would be more useful if it is left to actually burning it to media. This is how it should look as an example:

Game : Far Cry

Reader : LiteON 52327S

Writer : LiteON 52327S

Program(s) : Alcohol 120% and Alcoholer

Profile and/or settings used : Alcoholer's SafeDisc 2.9x profile to make and burn the image.

Additional notes : Only works on the LiteON 166s reader.

Good Luck!

Edit:// Please post unsuccessfull methods too!

A couple of things that may help people make a backup :

1. You will have a better chance using Re-Writable CDs
2. Burn the CD at 4x
3. Try to use a tolerable CD/DVD Drive like the LiteON 166s
4. Make sure you have no emulation and no burning programs open
5. Use a RAW writing programs like Alcohol 120% or DiscJuggler
6. Try to restart the computer a couple of times, and each time give it a go
7. Use good brand CDs.
8. Use the latest version of your burning applications
9. Try and see if the image works in a Virtual Drive
10. Don't be afraid to experiment with different apps.

Re: SafeDisc 3.20 Successes and Non-Successes

Game: Splinter Cell PT

Reader: ltd-166s

Writer: ltr-48125w

Burning Program: Discjuggler 4.10.1140

Settings: see Discjuggler thread by FP

Extra Notes: backup only works in ltd-166s, refuses to start in ltr-48125w even with emulation. Also tried ccd/fireburner and alcohol methods, but discs only worked in ltd-166s with "bad sector emulation" enabled in alcohol and again did not start in the burner. All backups written to (cheap) CMC cd-r discs.

Game : Far Cry (CD1 / Safedisc 3.20.022)

Reader : Plextor Premium (FW 1.05)

Writer : Plextor Premium (FW 1.05)

Programs : BlindWrite 4.57 (no AWS, no autoplay, burn @ 4X)

Results : Backup plays in Plextor premium and Liteon 166s. It sometimes runs in an Asus CD-S520A and Phillips CRW4401. It fails in a Creative DVD5421, Asus CRW-5224A and Matsushita CR5850.

In fact, only the old 3045 pattern was hard to read back on the plex. premium copy.

Writer : ASUS CRW-5224A (FW 1.1 or 1.40)

Programs : BlindWrite 4.57 (no AWS, no autoplay, burn @ 4X)

Results : Backup plays in Plextor premium and Liteon 166s. It fails everywhere else. The asus choked on SD 3.15's new weak sectors.

There some drives like LG GSA-4040B and an old creative cdrom 52x that needs sometime in some tries but it is ok.

Game: Far Cry
Read / Write: Lite On LTR52327S
Program: Blindwrite Suite 5 w/ blindwrite tweaker
Settings: Read speed 48x w/ strengthen weak sectors
Write speed 8x

I had the log, but now i can't find it. If you set it properly, it should fix around 580 sectors, early on.

It was burnt onto a Sony super optical cd.

It doesn't run in my drive (i only have one, but it runs in my friends ASUS cd drive (i will find out model number asap.)

Re: SafeDisc 3.20 Successes and Non-Successes

Hi there guys

I made some other tests in a little break I did ( I am in exams period now )
Well I used the same method like my last post. This time the was "True Crime: Streets of L.A."

Plexwriters 8/20 and 8/2/20 got successful results on all my devices

The case is that with the Aopen CRW-5232, Asus 5224A failed to get a golden backup like old plexis (only worked in some devices )

However, seems that using last Blindwrite with Aopen and ASUS CDRWs (only failed in my dvd-recorders and the damned toshiba sdm-1402) work better.

Good luck to SD killers

PS: Plextor premium is not good for making SD 2.90 and 3.15+ backups; the test was that I have made about 30 coasters trying to backup my Sims Superstar, MOH:Breakthrough, Lock ON, Universal Combat, Harry Potter: QM and large etc...
Although My surprise was sd 3.10 in LOTR:RK and fifa 2004 the backups worked really well.

Re: SafeDisc 3.20 Successes and Non-Successes

You are right Petspeed, the difference between both cd-recorders is minimal; they probably use the same chipset.

In order to know what models can write sd3 these are the requeriments:

-For plex 8/20 any of them of March 99 or after, because previous models can not write in raw mode as said Petspeed.

-For plex 8/2/20 the search is limitated; you will have to find tlas #01xx ONLY!!; the date of manufacturate of those models is irrelevant. Other tlas can write in raw mode but the chipset is simply different and can not write SD 2.x/sd3.x

Good luck

Re: SafeDisc 3.20 Successes and Non-Successes

Just 2 say, dont think the Plextor Premium is not good 4 SafeDisc 2/3. Cuz of the test conditions/circumstances members used maybe its not consistantly accurate and remember Premium is the only CD Drive 2 make 1:1 copies or near of SecureRom 4/5 with Blindwrite 5.

I have tested True Crime, and many various Safedisc 2/3 on these CD drives;

Samsung Combo Drive (old) SM-304

Liteon 52X32X52

and NEC DV-5700A DVD-rom

They worked on these Drives and Premium.

Blindwrite 5 is very poor for Safedisc backups.

I've tried to make backup from this same game (NHL...) but no real success.

Do you have any ideas what I could try to do next?

Game: NHL Eastside Hockey Manager
Reader: PlexWriter PX-W8432T Fw 1.09
Writer: PlexWriter PX-W8432T Fw 1.09
Program(s): Alcohol 120%
Profiles and/or Settings used: Reading and writing at 4x using SafeDisc profile

cd-r disc no work.
cd-rw disc works but only in PX-W8432T.

My other drive is Pioneer DVD-106S
