Re: Make backup of DVD navigation disc

Hi, glad to see people are getting their backups to work. I was wondering if anyone has gotten the new GM Navteq database backed up? I have the new V 4.1 disc, and want to use my backup instead of the original. I have the Ridata DVD+R DL discs (Ritek) which I believe are pretty much crap discs. There isn't a method that I have been able to get to work to copy my NAV disc. The NAV system just loops on "DVD check in progress". I was wondering if that was due to the fact that the NAV system just can't read the disc period because Ritek is junk. It sounds like it just keeps spinning up the DVD.

Has anyone done a working copy?

Re: Make backup of DVD navigation disc

re my philamber edited post - sorry I over stepped the mark - Is this bit OK?

There are Nero image WAREZ files which do not work.
Alcohol properties reports the image properties as being wrong the size
one image size 6868.08Mb shows as Length 01419296 (2.71GB). it burns as this - I've proved it
and the Other disk 7563.94MB shows as Length 1775584 (3.39GB).

The point is you can create a bad image use Alcohol to check your backup image is of the correct size or it will not provide a valid backup disk for you. These files do not show up as having problems when loaded into their native burning program - they just don't work.

Sorry again philamber!

Re: Make backup of DVD navigation disc

David_C, few clarifications:
- You did have a navigator that previously did not accept copies? Some seem to accept all disks, some next to nothing.
- Have you tried with newer medium than 0450 (0528 etc)?

Did try CloneCD, no luck. Even email'd slysofts support and they reckon clonecd/dvd will not copy copyprotected DVDs (regular drives do not support required adjustments).

OK - here we go!
The car is a Volvo 05 model running navteq DVD map disk.
I own and have copied the 0450 disk using DVDDecrypter ISO mode to a DVD+R DL twice (one as booktype DVD+R one as DVD-ROM) both work fine.

I also have access to Map Disk images
The only one which works is an 0548 image this is burnt to a DVD-R DL disk this upgraded the Volvo Firmware from 869 to 1001. This disk is one of a set of three and is not the UK disk. The firmware upgrade has not enabled TMC - I suspect there is more firmware upgrades added by the UK disk to do this. I do not know the firmware version for a system with the current UK disk - anyone running 0548 UK disk care to check their volvo sat nav for the firmware version number? I'd like to know what it is please!

I think the disk images which do not work are 0520 images but this is not documented and as they do not work I cannot really say. These are the only images I have had a problem with and were the ones I started with, I learnt a lot from them not working and trying to get round it (5 DL coasters and counting). I am not saying you cannot backup 0520 disks just the images I have are not valid!!!
If you want more info pm me (if this site has this feature) I am trying to be as general as possible - my first detailed post was edited (rightly so!) by philamber - I want to help but have to be careful about breaching site warez rules.

One thing I can add is the disk sems to be accepted by the reader a bit quicker if it is DVD-ROM booktype! But this is only a matter of seconds, neither here nor there really

Jamie,
Did you have any luck with the 4.1 disk? I have tried a few times with the exact same results. Any help would be appreciated.

I wasted 5 DVD+DL (Ritek) but they are cheap junk, so I ordered Verbatim DVD+DL, I considered getting the DVD-DL too, but they are much more expensive. Somewhere around $4-6 ea. I held off on those. I will give those a try next, since I did read somewhere that those -DL did produce a working copy for some people usind DVD Decrypter in ISO mode and seeting booktype to DVD. But that was an earlier model number oh the NAV disc. We'll see what happens.

Anyone one else make any progress with this?

Jamie

Unless I've missed something along the way, the only disks you can booktype are DVD+ media.
Does anyone know if DVD- can now be booktype user set?

Re: Make backup of DVD navigation disc

I was reading at it seemed for some poeple it didn't matter what the booktype was set to. It depended on the media. So thats what I was thinking.

Hey I just burned a working copy of GM Version 4.1 I used an HP external usb dual layer burner model # HP DVD740e and Verbatim DVD+R DL media. I did a disc copy using Nero 6.0 that came with the burner. Beginners luck I guess.

Hi _jmk - try a look here Its the method I have used to copy Volvo disks up to 0548, Alpine Disk Topic - not the obvious place to look!

http://club.cdfreaks.com/showpost.ph...8&postcount=18

Hope this helps!

If you are still stuck let me know I could try to burn your image if you want!

If you are trying to burn a warez image of the 0528 UK (Scand) OR Europe (France Germany) disk save your media! - they are not a valid image(s)!!!

Re: Make backup of DVD navigation disc

I'm new here, but I thought I'd chime in with my experience copying my Nav disk. I have an Infiniti G35 with Version 6.4 (by Zenrin). I used UltraISO to make an image file and CloneCD to write the file to a Verbatim DVD +R DL disk. It works perfectly every time. Just like the original which is now in safekeeping in my home office.

I tried some Fuji DL disks. It was a waste of $$$ as those disks are crap. Same with Memorex. More crap. I made more coasters than usable copies. Most wouldn't even write correctly, never mind read them. Stick with Verbatim for your media.

I also had success using ImgBurn to write the image files. I haven't tried DVDDecryptor yet, but I will give it a shot.

I've used a Sony DRU-820A drive with the latest firmware (1.0b) and a I/OMagic IDVD16DLS (OEM BenQ DW-1655 crossflashed with BenQ BCDB firmware). Both drives are set to booktype written media as DVD-ROM. Each of these drives worked fine writing to good media.

Hope this helps somone. Great site by the way.

Re: Make backup of DVD navigation disc

Like fast330ci, some of us on the Acurazine forums have attempted it and only one of us have had success. Unfortunately, the one who was successful doesn't want to ID the media he used.

Here are a few quotes from over there. I'm hoping that you guys over here can offer some advice that might help us duplicate the success of the one individual.

Me
Quote:
Tried it twice last week. I ripped the DVD using DVD Decrypter and tried burning with Alcohol 120%. I used Verbatim DVD+R DL discs and set the book type to DVD-ROM.

The Navi absolutely does not like it. It gives a disc error message. I did some searching through the forum and on cdfreaks.com. I don't think anyone has been successful doing it. I think it may have something to do with the bar code on the Navi disc.
Successful User

Quote:
the bar code? if anything is on the top of the disc it means nothing to the drive

i burnt the disc about a month ago, worked perfectly in the TL, and still using it now

make sure you burn it at the slowest (1x) speed
Quote:
panasonic dvd-ram sw-9585, alc 120. forgot what type of disc it is, doesn't say anything on the disc
Quote:
all i did was open the dvd in windows explorer, select all, then copy and pasted all the files into a new folder on my desktop

then used nero, not alcohol 120

picked DVD-ROM(ISO) dragged all the files and burnt it
Unsuccessful User 2

Quote:
OK I tried copy and paste method, did NOT work.

I used Roxio 8, Verbatim DVD-R DL, 2x speed(lowest I could pick), Pioneer DVR-110D(their latest drive).
Me

Quote:
Yeah, I tried yesterday using Memorex and Verbatim DVD+R DL discs. I burned using Nero and ImgBurn (successor to DVD Decrypter). No luck at all.

I'm not sure what else to try. I still have 3 discs left, 2 Verbatim 1 Memorex. I imagine that it's either the media or the burner.
FYI, drive is a Plextor PX-716A with 1.09 firmware. Nero burned the disc using only about half the disc, meaning the burned area only spans about half of the disc. ImgBurn and DVD Decrypter burned with the dark area spanning about 90% of the disc. Very strange. All three discs report the burn on multiple layers.

Any thoughts on how the one user achieved success would be very much appreciated.

Re: Make backup of DVD navigation disc

I have been following the postings here and wanted to add something. I made a successful copy of a Chrysler NAVTEQ DVD using DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0. (Used nothing else) I used DVD Decrypter to rip the DVD and create an ISO. I then used it to burn the ISO. (Use the MDS file) I DID set the booktype to DVD-ROM first. I have a LiteOn 16x DL burner but bumped the speed down to 2x in DVD Decrypter for the burn. I ripped the original with a LiteOne 16x DVD-ROM drive. I have seen the comments about Fuji DL media but that is what I used and had no issues.

The version of NAVTeq DVD copied was 05064033AC. (2004 release) I am using the backup with absolutely no issues.

Re: Make backup of DVD navigation disc

It seems that Chrysler's newer Navigation Radios (REC) can read the copied discs just fine, but the older ones (RB1) won't... At least not yet. They are the same discs. Not sure what else to try.

Re: Make backup of DVD navigation disc

Hi all,
all this backup copys of my Subaru navi DVD are running in my car.

I used:

Programm: DVD Decrypter Version 3.5.4
Burner: Plextor PX-760A Firmware 1.02
DVD+R DL: Verbatim Printable x2.4 dey: MKM-001-00
Fujifilm x2.4 RICOHJPN-D00-01
Philips x2.4 CMC-D01-00
Samsung Pleomax x2.4 RITEK-D01-01

PC: Asus A7V133 AMD Duron 900MHz DRAM 256 MB
Windows XP Pro SP1

First i did an ISO-image on a NTSF-partition.
I used the defaults of the programm.
All named DVDs are running good.

I controlled the quality of the burning with Pextools Pro XL.
With alcohol 120% ver.1.9.2 I wasn´t able to get a running copy.
The critical point allways was the stepover from layer 1 to layer 2
and the region at the end of layer 2.
