List of SD2.9 playable/nonplayable dvd/cdr/rw drives..

below are the drives ive tested that will play backups of safedisk 2.9+ titles without emulation (ie autoplay, etc.). note: all cdrw drives need hide atip to work no matter how good the copy.

I used the Asus 5224A to burn.

drives that playback ok
EPO RW-5252 CDRW
Samsung SW-252BRNSF CDRW
Memorex 32023257 CDRW
MediaStor CW-524 CDRW
Maddog MD-52XCDR CDRW
Plextor Premium CDRW
Plextor 708A DVDRW
Liteon 52246s CDRW
Liteon 52327s CDRW
Liteon LTC-48161H DVD/CDRW
Sony DRU-500A DVDRW
Asus 5224A CDRW
Teac UE-5200B External CDRW (rebaged asus 52x)

drives that need emulation to play
Creative CD5220-F cdr
Goldstar GCC-420N dvd/cdrw (dell laptop drive)

drives that will not play all sd 2.9 titles (some work)
Toshiba SD-M1402

I will add more when i test them or remember all that ive tested..also if you want to please post below on drives you could get to work or couldnt.

if you own one of these drives and cant get it to work without emulation then your copy isnt good enough. i suggest using asus or newer liteon drives to backup sd2.9

edit: ive moved the non working drives to the working ones since i have the new version of CloneCD I can now play all sd titles on all of my drives with just hide cdr enabled.

after learning that the clonecd backups use emulation i have moved the two drives back to the will not play list

Oh finally someone who confirms my result that 1:1 Copys of SafeDisc 2.9 and 3.1 protected games won't work in all drives.

I have some more drives to list:

not working:
PIONEER DVR-105

working:
TOSHIBA SD-M1612

I must qualify my own statement:

These drives all work well with SD 2.9 copies.

The 2 LG DVD Rom drives do not work with SD 3.15 copies.

Jackass, despite me having worse manners than your 10 old, I reckon (although, one should only reckon with numbers) you deserve a custom user title, if you can put a sticky together; tease out all the main points and stuff on SD2.9 +, ASUS, LITEONs and the main apps. Highlight the ATIP hiding feature pitfalls and emu issues.

It'll keep us on top of emerging problems, tips and traps, and, you'll be a guru.

Please dont think like that Emulation should be an option, there for when all else fails.
Emulation and virtual drives are blacklistable.
Look at emulation as a software modchip for a PC,
New console ver = New modchip
New PC protection ver = new emu-soft

Safedisc 2.8 playability on notebook drives..

Anyone know of internal notebook (slim-type) CD or
DVD drives that will run backup discs of Safedisc 2.8?

I've tried Lite-on, Sony, Toshiba, Asus slim drives,
and none will recognize backup discs of Safedisc 2.8.

I know the back-ups are well-made because the
discs on different desktop drives (lite-on, plextor, etc).

All the drives listed in this thread are for desktops...
