HELP! CD copy won't work! Hi! I am looking for some help to make a backup copy of a CD for my mum... She works in a school and uses a program called Boardmaker. The disk is worth a lotta money and shes worried when she takes it into school that it will get scrathed etc. So i said i'd copy it 4 her and now after about 5 wasted disks i still can't get the copy to work. Here's what i've tried so far... I am running xp, and have all the prorgammes, A-ray scanner, alcohol 120% deamon and a few more. Anyway i take the cd load it with A-Ray scanner and get the copy protecion to be secuROM 5.03.13.0070 so with this information, i load alcohol 120% chose CD COPY WIZARD, put in the relevant info (i have tried both secuROM *NEW and secuROM *NEW (4.x/5.x). It creates the image, i insert the blank cd, it copies it everything goes smoothly. So i have the copied cd and i try load it and it seems to go horribly wrong. The original programme (Boardmaker incase u forgot) needs the disk in in order to use it (even if the programme is installed). And so when i try to put the copied cd in, xp recongises the fact that there is a cd in and the disk spins furriously giving the impression it's gonna load then just stops after a few minutes. I can't understand this because i have actually installed the programme from the copied disk, and when i explore the files, they are all there! If any1 can shed any light on the situation, i would b much grateful! Thanks a lot Tommy D

Re: HELP! CD copy won't work! I don't know where this feature is sorry...i will have a look for it now tho. I don't what u mean when u say "before trying to run the backup copy" I did not mount the disk in a virtual drive. I am trying to play the cd straight from the the disk. So how do you think i should play the copy? Should i mount it? and if so where and how? Or do you mean that i need to reburn the disk with this RMPS feature turned on? Thanks a lot. TommyD

Re: HELP! CD copy won't work! Well, you have said you have Alcohol 120%. Then I would recommend you to use the profile "Securom NEW(4.x/5.x)" for both creating the image and then burning it. This profile has already set the RMPS emulation.

Re: HELP! CD copy won't work! I will try this again, although i'm pretty sure that i've tried it. C what i can't understand is the fact that i copied the disk, and installed it onto the computer from the copied disk. But when i go to load the programme it won't load. The programme needs the disk in to run, and when i put in the original, then the programme loads fine. Wierd?!?! TommyD

Re: HELP! CD copy won't work! Rite we seem to be making a bit of progress now... When i put in the copied disk i load the program but get an error messsage "unable to authenticate the original disk within time limit" I have never has this message with previous copies, so something is defiately different about this copy. But at the end of the day still don't work! Any more ideas? TommyD

| Re: HELP! CD copy won't work! You dont need to use twinpeaks, my guess is that the copy of alcohol 120% is blacklisted. In this case, reinstall it, but at the start of the installation check "expert installation mode", it will ask you in the install to name the driver bus and scsi, instead of a347bus and a347scsi, call it a123bus and a123scsi, this should unblacklist it. | Re: HELP! CD copy won't work! Are you using the Cd you copies with RPMS emulation? Have you enambled RPMS emualtion and ignore media type in the emulation options? Ben ![]()

Re: HELP! CD copy won't work! I followed the instructions in the thread suggsted by VirusHack and carried them out exactly. So i thought this would have included this RPMS feature in the burn. Rite i am not entirely sure how to make the use of this function but i will give it a go! Cheers TommyD

Re: HELP! CD copy won't work! I do not have an answer for you, would like to know the source/cause of the "Unable to authenticate original disk within the time limit" error message myself. However with my backup it is intermittant. I made a copy of the play disk for LOTR:WOTR using the guide "CloneCD: Copying SecuROM 4.8x protected games " supplied by philamber and it worked first time. Since then sometimes when I insert the disk I get the authentication message. Normally a reboot solves the problem but it is a bit of a pain. BTW my disk drives are a Plextor 708A-DVD writer and a Toshiba SD-M-1212 DVD-Rom. Both drives played the disk and both would not when I got the above error msg.

Re: HELP! CD copy won't work! Try.. Open alcohol and minimise to the task bar. right click and make sure the emultion option is ticked. re insert disc.. I think you got to have alcohol running once you have burnt a disc using emultion. At least thats what I do. good luck.

Re: HELP! CD copy won't work! http://www.makeabackup.com/contentid-5-2.html I have made a backup of Boardmaker with securom 5.02 protection. using Alcohol 120% 1.9.2 using the copy wizard In order for you to play your backup, you need Alcohol or Daemon Tools installed on the computer you want to play the backup on, with RMPS emulation enabled from the emulation options. The emulation process makes the SecuROM protection module think the original disc is present in the drive, and thus allows you to launch the program from your backup. Prior to the image making, Alcohol needs to read the characteristics of the media. This is unique for only a few copy protections. SecuROM 4.8 and above being one of them. Alcohol's name for this process is Data Position Measurement. The measurement needs to be particularly accurate in order for a good working backup. Its advised to set the DPM reading speed to 4x. This has shown to yield best results. Note that this process can take several minutes. If DPM fails for any reason, your backup will not work.

Re: HELP! CD copy won't work! Thanks for that post: I had tried some other methods listed above and went from the backup CD doing nothing to it giving me the "unable to authenticate the original disk within time limit" error. the http://www.makeabackup.com/contentid-5-2.html link worked for me though finally. I got it to work last night. I was having trouble for a second. My drive labeled the cd as "needs emulation" but I wasn't able to get the emulation to kick in. So after I had everything right according to the instructions, I restarted and all worked fine. Thanks for the help.
