Game Fails Installation on Windows XP Professional

Howdy.

I have two computers running Windows XP Professional. Each machine has a Lite-On drive--a LTR-24102B CD-RW and a Combo LTC-48161H DVD/CD-RW. Both machines fail at reading some files on my recently purchased Freedom Force (Safedisc 2.51.020) disc. I thought this odd because I have always had superior reads with my Lite-On drives, but only recently upgraded to Windows XP Professional.

As a test, I stuck the disc into a Windows 2000 Professional laptop drive. To my amazement, I was able to access the entire disc (i.e., the installation didn't fail).

This is different than most the people see when running into copy protection. They get an error when trying to run the game, not during install.

I searched the forums and ran across things about blacklisting, etc. While on one computer I have Alcolhol 120%, the other is my kids' computer without any CD copying software installed.

Most assuredly you have had similar problems in your endeavor to overcome copy protection. I just want the disc to be read correctly, but the dang copy protection is getting in the way.

Thanks.

It does sound like the Safedisc Windows XP issue. But like you I though that it was just during the running of the game that this happened.

Since though you have installed the game on an Windows 2000 machine I would go with this theory to begin with. So try installing the Safedisc update from microsoft and see what happens. Sorry I don't have the link but a quick search of the website should bring it up.

That's what I thought at first, though when I read it applied only to "limited users" while launching the game. I'm running administrator, and trying to install as you well know.

I have another link to a Macromedia patch that I'll try tonight. I don't know if it is the same one that Microsoft provides. It just says "an issue with NT including XP" while MS says "Windows XP only".
