Re: Farcry Backup?

Salut,
I'm Nathan, (mr nun) and my problem is..... I recieved Far Cry (DVD) as a present and i want to back it up. I know there arent any RAW DVD writers out there yet and even if there are, i havent got one. So, what i want to know is, does anyone know of a program that can rip DVD games to cd's. I dont really want to rip out all the music etc but just kinda chop the game up into chunks. (I did download a version of Far Cry that had been ripped into .bin files and an installer that did all the crazy stuff but it turned out to be in italian... shhhhhh. I DELETED IT ANYWAY. Could someone please give me a few tips if there is a prog out there. I think i hurd someone mention a prog called 'Atlantis Toolkit' but i dont know where to get it and thats for PS2 games, if that makes a difference.

Sorry if this is a dumbass question.

Thankyou...
Nathan....... (Mr Nun)

Re: Farcry Backup?

You cannot go from DVD to CD, it just not going to work.
And we do not want to know about your illegal downloading activities....

Re: Farcry Backup?

If you are using it on your laptop, then you might like to try Game Jackel (my sig) it will allow you to play the both of those games without the cd.

Re: Farcry Backup?

Thanks Ockingshay

I will look that on, but I would also like to know if my drive is compatible, just to stop wasting hours of trying to do the impossible maybe...

So can the Toshiba SD-R2212 be used for the Virus 2K back up method?

Thanks for answering

Re: Farcry Backup?

thank you kalas

I downloaded game jackal and i will give it a try but it's free for only 30 days

I don't know if it's worth to buy it for that price I can almost buy a second copy of the game and with copy protection always changing you cannot know if they will stay ahead of the game vendors

a backup is good as you can do everything you want with it

will come back again to say whether game jackal worked or not

thanks again
so kalas thanks again

Re: Farcry Backup?

Give it a try Soupmaker, about your Toshiba SD-R2212 drive I don't know if it's able to create a working non emulated backup. I would suggest doing the SheepTest and if you didn't take a look at the SafeDisc 3.20 Successes and Non-Successes thread, chck it out for different methods of creating a backup. Good luck .

Re: Farcry Backup?

Yes Far cry and sc:pt are supported. In fact so far all safedisc 3+ titles i have tried have worked.

Only thing that doesn't work, well for public anyway ;) is securom 5, tages and starforce.

Re: Farcry Backup?

SecuROM 5 is widely copyable with TwinPeaks and Plextor Premium method.

Re: Farcry Backup?

erm, that's great merther02 but FarCry is safedisc 3.2 on dvd and that is not currently copiable. The only "legal" method at the moment for playing this game without the original is Game Jackal.

Re: Farcry Backup?

Hmmm....still can't get Far Cry (or True Crime LA) to function using latest version of GameJackal. I didn't spend too long creating a profile though, 10 mins or so; does sd 3.2 require more profile building time Ockingshay? Or has sd 3.2 not been sorted out yet?

p.s. i get the ~df394b.tmp error

You can use the far cry profile already in the database. Works for me. Make sure you set the right target location of the .exe and away it should go.

Re: Farcry Backup?

Splinter Cell 2 Pandora Tomorrow
disc 1 SafeDisc 3.20.022
disc 2 nothing
disc 3 SafeDisc 3.20
disc 4 nothing

Since yesterday I made the (in)famous sheep test and my toshiba SD-R2212 did not pass the three sheep test, the best it could was 2.9 oh well...

Anyway I made images of both cd 1 and 3, for 1 I didn't get any error messages, while for 3 I got error messages until 10 224 and at the end (a lot fewer)

So I mounted these images on alcohol, installed the game and it worked

Well so much as my graphic card allows me game menu cinematics select profile and after loading the first level nothing happens and the game just dies

I burned the image but it would not work it would close with the usual unexpected error message

I did not try the game jackal as there is no interest for that now

too bad images are too big to fit on one cd

thats the end of this story for me

my system cannot coop with all the technical requirements of this game, I had a hard time installing it from the cds in the first place

Re: Farcry Backup?

Hmm. You may have a dodgy cd unit, i dont know. The sheep test is not that accurate i think, you shouldnt really depend on it too much.

Which CD unit are you using to burn the CDs?

Re: Farcry Backup?

I used the Toshiba SD-R2212 which is a combo drive so it was also my burner...

As I said I have a laptop I dunno if that makes any difference...

The sheep test indeed is not very accurate as it did not gave me the same results when repeated

But the test for the three sheep never worked it always gave me the cyclic redundancy error

And I never suceeded in burning a copy that worked

I burned the images on cd rw philips at 4x but nothing and I think would be useless to waste several cd-r s

What type of video card do you have? If it's a geForce 2 or equivalent, the game will not work. You need a geForce 3 and up for the game to work.

Re: Farcry Backup?

You should try contacting UbiSoft tech support, you need a card that supports pixel shaders. There is no reg hack or anything like that for pixel shading.

I think Phillips CD-RW units are incapable of copying many of the latest protections, even with emulation. You have a better chance of getting a working copy when you use CD-RWs for game media compared to CD-Rs when copying SafeDisc (and not only this protection).

And i wouldnt worry, there are no such thing as a 3 sheep burner.

You will have a better chance running the game from a tolerant reader such as a LiteON DVD rom as your backup may have a lot of errors and glitches. And no my love for LiteON DVD roms will not end any time soon!!

Re: Farcry Backup?

Thanks for the advice

My video card is a NVIDIA GeForce4 420 Go with 16 Mo

I am pretty sure it does not have pixel shading

The utility at the begining of the game says that I don't have the proper video card - I should have had 64 Mo at least (while all other conditions, except one other I cannot remmember, are met)

I decided to give it a try as some games would work nevertheless, but it did not

Anyway Ubisoft's desire to protect their game is a little bit exagerated as I could not finish installing the game from the CDs

After Disc 2 begins loading it will start to ask me for the first disc which is non sense

If I got passed that, it would crash at the end of Disc 3 with a wait on dialog error

And I have the original Cds !!!

It s one thing to not be able to play it because you don't have the proper hardware but to not be able to install it is inacceptable

I read over the internet and many people complained about this

The only way I suceeded in installing the game was to copy the cds on my computer and install from there

There could be a problem with my cds but I don't think so

Or with my dvd-rom but again I don't think so

I spent too much time on this and I don't have right now other drives to try there, too, to see if it is a hardware problem

I am thinking to give it a last try to burn the image on other cd -rw than my philips but I don't know if that's gonna change anything

I am gonna return it I hope I will not have any problems with that

And maybe try the first one which I haven't played yet....
