I had no problems whatsoever backing up this game. I used a Plextor Premium and the newest version of Blindwrite 5 and just used the default read settings. Also I used the default write settings and it burned a copy that works great in every drive I have tested.

As we all well know, Plex Prem rules, as well as blindwrite!

But many users are not lucky enough to own one of these babez, so were gunna have to wait until some decent software developments appear, i think.

Re: Farcry Backup?

Thanks ViRuS,

I followed your instructions for the most part & I have a perfect working backup of Far Cry. I didn't follow the instructions to a T though. I used my son's PC with a Lite-On 52x24x52x to read & write all 5 disks. Also when using Alcohol I didn't "Untick By-Pass EFM Error" because I didn't see that option. I also didn't uninstall CloneCD.

I installed the game (w/all 5 backup disks) on my PC with a Lite-On 163 DVD-Rom. I also have a Lite-On 411s DVD burner on the same PC but didn't try playing it in that drive.

Is there something about CloneCD that just having it installed on your PC makes some game backups not work?

If so, is the only way to fix it to uninstall CloneCD?

Re: Farcry Backup?

Just finished a perfectly good working backup using Blindwrite 5.0.7 and my Plextor DVDR PX-708A rev1.06 with automatic settings for reading and writting.
I had first tried VIRuS2K method without any succes using either the Plextor or my Lite-on LTR-52246S or my Pioneer DVD-ROM DVD-106.

But thanks anyway VIRuS2K.

Re: Farcry Backup?

Backup Farcry US CD version.

Disk: Play/Install (1)

Box1

SW A120 1.9.2.17 WinXP SP1a

Read: Toshiba SD M1201 Firm 1024 SD 2/3 Profile at 20X no mods or emulation

Write: LiteOn 52327S Firm QSOE SD 2/3 Profile at 8X No mods or emulation Media: Fuji (Taiyo Yuden) Can't stand that other silver low contrast crap....

Play: LiteOn 486S Flashed to 526S Firm YSON Doesn't mind A120, BW, and CCMate....etc.

Box 2

Play: Goldstar 24X Slotload Not a burnbox.....

Box 3

SW: A120 1.9.2.17 Win2K AS SP4

Write: LiteOn 48246S Firm 6SOF 4X as above
Write: TDK 5200B Firm 67U5 (LiteOn) 4X as above Multiple burn.

Box 1 doesn't validate these disks 100% of the time but they will play eventually. All others fine. No virtual drives...

Box 4

Play: Mad Dog (!?!) 16X DVD

Boxs 5-9

Play: Varios Goldstar, Aopen, Toshiba 32X to 52X...

It does take a while to verify.. about 10 - 30 sec longer than the original on some drives. (Fiddles around at the full splash screen...)

Also works fine after 1.1 upgrade

I'll see if I have time to BW on the ASUS 5424A on the other server....No A120 in there...

SC Pandora - same
Painkiller - same
True Crime - same but Box 1 takes forever to auth, craps out most of the time must be BL BW or A120 but I'll regedit before I uninstall......and I never uninstall.

If the game doesn't like my SW/HW... phlook it!

Cheers

Re: Farcry Backup?

Nice work ViRuS2K, using your method i've got a working backup of True Crime (SD 3.20.022), read on a Toshiba SDM 1502, written on a Liteon 40125W.

Won't play from Toshy, but works like a charm on Liteon burner with NO EMULATION OR ATIP BLOCKER running.

Well done!!

WHAT WOULD YOU DO ? lol

Re: Farcry Backup?

Well i tried this method and it worked great. Did all the steps with my LG GSA-4081b(fir:A104) and it runs with no emu using my sony cd-rom drive but needs Safedisk emu from Deamon tool to run on my 4081b and my 8320b. I also did it with autoplay on in alcohol and i didnt have to uninstall CloneCd nor did I have to turn on Hide Media or Ignore Media.

Thx Virus!!

Well I have the same 4081b as you and i got a working copy.I notice during my testing of the copy that using either Safedisk emu from Daemon tool or Hide CDR Media from CloneCD, the game starts with ease but using Ignore Media Type from Alcohol, makes the game have a difficult time....So i suggess,if you have Alcohol to disable Ignore Media Type and if by any chance you disabled autoplay in Alcohol, put it back on and updating your firmware can help if you havent already done it(Firmware A104 )..cuz thats how i had it and my copy works great...Hope that helps!!
