| CD-RW and Safedisk First, thanks to everyone for the tips on how to back up the new Safedisk. When backing up Far Cry using the following I got a good working copy for my game machine which has a Liteon DVD reader. This machine has no copy software and is running XP. The copy machine has: Creative Labs DVD reader 5241E (don't laugh this has worked for everything so far touch wood). The writer is my trusty Liteon 32123S. Media is generic silver blue CD. Software is Alcohol 120 ver 1.4.8 build (1222). Write speed 8X. Safedisk 2/3 profile for read and write. When I wrote the same image to a TDK 4X CD_RW the copy does not work. Using the TDK 4X CD-RW on Call Of Duty worked fine. Is this the new Safedisk or something else ? I tried on 3 CD-RW's ![]() |

| Well, you can scan the cd to make sure its safedisc, just pick up a scanner Further, you have a Lite-on, and therefore can do some extra advanced scanning for the media you encounter with the K-Probe tool. In your case, identify what the silver media is and what Dye it uses. You say you have no copy software installed, have you disabled the XP default copy software, it runs as a service under name ATAPI. I always burn safedisc titles at lower speeds...2x or 4x. But you did that at 8x so its a good enough lowered speed I suppose. And... are you hiding ATIP info from the burner? Thats a biggie.

| More Far Cry results I've tested the backups on 3 machines now, here are the results: All machines have Liteon DVD readers, machine 1 & 2 are 166S models,Machine 3 is a 163 model. All 3 will not run off CD-RW backups. Both 166S machines will run backup on CD-R media. I then made an image using Disk Dump and Fireburner. The two 166S readers ran those backups fine. The 163 reader will not run any backup. It seems that having a Liteon DVD reader is not enough any more, it may depend on the model you have (depending of course on how the image was made ). |
