Backups of NFS:U and NBA Live 2004?

I've been having a lot of problems making backups of Need for Speed: Underground and NBA Live 2004 with Alcohol 120% and my LTR-52327S.

I've read though the board and tried to make backups with Bypass EFM Error on and off, but nothing seems to work. When I try to install the game (from either my LTR-52327S or Pioneer DVD-ROM DVD-116), I get weird CRC errors. However, the games install fine when I mount the images I've created on a virtual drive.

How exactly do I burn these images with Alcohol 120%? By that, I mean, what settings should I use?

Sorry for my newbie post ... I've made too many coasters and don't know what to do

Probably cheap or incompatible media or are you Checking Ignore Media Type when playing from the burner?

Ignore Media Type is checked, but Alcohol 120% is not running when I atttempt to install the game. Does this matter? Should I uncheck Ignore Media Type?

And yes, I do have cheap media. Should I pick up some Mitsui's and try again?

You might not have coasters. You must have Alcohol runiing for the Hide ATIP feature to be "on"

First, you don't need alcohol running (just installed and enabled) for hide atip. Second, try to burn at 4x.

This means that the copy is simply bad rather than being a problem related to the protection. Either-

1. Use better quality media (as suggested by FP);

2. Slow down your burn speed (as suggested by Andareed); or

3. (Preferably) both 1. & 2.

Thanks for all the help.

One more question: should I burn with Bypass EFM Errors off or on, and what profile should I use?

Successful backups of NBA Live 2004 and NFS: Underground were made with Alcohol 120%, using:
  • Maxell CD-R 700MB 40x certified media
  • burnt at 40x
  • Safedisc 2 profile (with Bypass EFM Errors ON)
Looks like it was the media ... Thanks FutureProof and everyone else that helped!

On to a new topic: I've been unable to make a successful backup of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. I'll search the forum to find out how. Thanks again!

@bunny

Can you play the game without emulation?
Or I need Alcohol running in the background?

Only if playing from a non-burner, Ignore media is running even though Alcohol is not, the protection is patched out, there's a bug (not uncommon), some other emulator is running or no protection I think that covers it

Strange ... I am unable to create a working backup of PoP using either the Safedisc nor the Safedisc 2/3 profile with Alcohol 120%. However, the image I have created does work in my virtual CD drive. Anyone have any insight on how I might create a backup of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time?

The drive I have are: LTR-52327S & Pioneer DVD-ROM DVD-116

See all those drives listed in my signature, below? My PoP:SoT backup works ONLY in the Litey 163D. We are a bee's dick or gnat's nut away from complete failure. Other people have had slightly different experiences but the playback drives are diminishing without the help of emulation ala CloneCD and Blindwrite

What would really be good if someone made an ATIP hider and Protection emulator that is incorporated into the operating system and was a hidden system file so it ran in the background without you even knowing it was there!

Version 1 is now released! You can get it here.

In it you can learn about SafeDisc, SecuROM and heaps of other protections and learn on how to defeat them. Also you can take a look at some of my various tutorials in it and some frequently asked questions asked. Plus heaps more!
Enjoy!

Thanks for the info FutureProof. So I'm going to need some emulation to play my backups.

I'm surprised there's no registry edit or something that disables protection :-/

I've seen in the registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Securom but i don't know what it does.

Yes

No way, except that precautions can be taken by the backup authors The protectionists are clever people and just doing their job. In all Copyright law, it doesn't say it has to be easy.
