THE SIMS THE SIMS THE SIMS

Me , My friend & brother All have Copy's of the SIMS UNLEASHED & now that we have that out of the way.

ME & friend both have lite-on's 40125s & his brother has a plextor 40x so the three little piggy's went to back up there cd's on the plextor. We used Clone CD 4.0.0.1 for reading And Fireburner 2.1.7 for writing. The copys all work on my friend'system all be it some what slower than the original but they don't work at all on my pc or his brother system's they both have windows XP and i have (ME) they both have the same creative 52X cd rom they tried to load off ????? the plot thickin's.

Strange i used this same method to back up my copy of NFS hot pursuit 2 and that worked ok & both games have SD 2.8xxxx i believe ??... any ideas input? Please?

Polaroid BurnMAX48x beats Safedisc 2.8.x

Add the Polaroid BurnMAX 40x& 48x as Safedisc 2.8.x killers
I made successful backups of The Sims Unleashed using BlindWrite

Thanx, the list of sd2 killers needs an update. I'll add them to the list when I get round to updating the list in a week or two.

The latest official versions as at 10/12/02 are:
  • CloneCD v. 4.2.0.2
  • Burnatonce 0.91 beta
that you download from their respective sites.

Devine Devinity / Battlefield 1942

It seems that Battlefield 1942 has employed the same update drama as DD, once you update B1942 to the latest patch the SD version gets updated to 2.8 and the copy I made using CloneCD a while back ceased to work.
I made a new copy (after testing with my original to make sure that the game still worked and wasnt just a dud patch) using DDumb and Fireburner with which combo Ive copied SD2.8 without a problem before (NFS 2 HP) and the game worked properly once again. A pain in the butt to be sure, but one that can be gotten around.

Just a FYI

we want a burner that writes the bad sectors so that no update will make our copy useless

No problem with any back-up copy originally burnt with fireburner after updating and I suspect that the same is the case with any copy originally made with discjuggler.

I posted a question earlier not noticing that this thread is already close to subject.

I have a iso and sub image of NFS.

Questions:

What software will work with just an iso (704M) and sub ? Can it be done without a img file?

I have a Pioneer A03 (DVD-R) and my laptop has a MATSHITA UJDA710 (CDRW/DVD). Will these write the file properly or do I need to pull out my old YAMAHA 8X?

Thank you in advance.

Raycaster, I think Fireburner can still burn an ISO WITHOUT a cuesheet, but I'm not exactly sure.

Did anyone experience this?
I made perfect backups of NFS HP2 and disc#2 of FIFA 2003 using DDump+Fireburner - both protected by Safedisc 2.8. However, even though the image size was similar, it took longer to read FIFA 2003 (38mins) compared to NFS HP2 (19 mins).

What's up with that??? Just curious.

Fireburner can burn an iso image without a cuesheet. However, an iso image with subs has almost certainly been made with blindread though why anyone bothered to make an image of a safedisc game with subs is beyond me. (Raycaster, if you can't burn the image, make a new one from your original cd. You do own the original, don't you? )

As to why it took about twice as long to dump cd2 of fifa 2003 as it took to dump nfshp2, it's almost certainly that when dumping fifa 2003, ddump decided that your drive didn't support fast sector skip and so reverted to standard mode (which still works but is much slower than safedisc mode).

Thankyou philamber - fellow Melbournian

So DDump just made up its mind just like that? huh! I didn't want to sound like I was complaining, as I DID make sucessful backups - 2 games well worthy of keeping in "as new" condition IMHO. But I just like to know about these little things!

Thanks again!

Yep. It's one of ddump's little quirks.

However, after your next re-boot, it may well decide that the drive supports fast sector skip after all (at least for a while anyway. )

I would like to add the Plextor SCSI 8/20 to the Safedisc2 burner list. Just made 1:1 copy of MOH Spearhead. I used Alcohol 120% latest version. Bypass EFM error was NOT checked. Used Teac 40x cd rom to read and burned image at 8X. I'm using Win98SE.
These are other titles that I have been sucessful at creating 1:1 copies using this same set up. Hitman codename 47 - MaxPayne - MOHAA. I was using CCD4 but Alcohol 120% Rocks the House for now. My Plex is old but it still dependable. I also use an UltraPlex 40x SCSI reader and a Toshiba SCSI DVD rom SD-M1401 for DVD ripping. Both rom's make excellent images. I'm looking foward to Plextor's 40X SCSI burner due out this month. When I receive it, I will post details of its perfromance. I hope Plextor doesn't let me down.

Sorry, your plex is not a 2 sheep writer. Whilst, a number of plex owners can successfully copy recent safedisc games without by-pass efm errors, AWS or an equivalent, most can't.

You're just one of the lucky ones who can.

Copyright, Allright someone else who still uses SCSI me too. I have hte Plex 40x and the Toshiba m1401 as well. Great drives. I have found that when other drives fail to play games I have burned one or the other of theses two drives will. HTey are great. I have also found that the Plextor 40x CD rom can read anything I through at it. All the games I copy with it work. Plain and simple. I was so sad when Plextor stopped making SCSI drives. I am glad htey will again. I just wsh it would be at 48x or 52x instead of 40x. But Long live SCSI.

Philamber - I downloaded and performed the sheep test using my Plextor SCSI 8/20 - I had success with the two sheep test but failed the 3 sheep test. I used "compare-it 2.88" and it resulted in identical files for the 2 sheep test burned @ 8X. I hope this info can classify the Plextor 8/20 as a 2 sheep burner. Can you recommend a good 3sheep burner. Thanx

@ COPYRIGHT

The fact that your particular writer passed alexnoe's 2 sheep test is no surprise since it is able to copy the latest safedisc games without bypass efm errors. However, your results aren't typical. Most owners of your particular writer will find that their writer fails and that bypass efm errors will be required.

This is due to variations between individual writers and, as I said in my previous post, some plex owners, including you, don't require bypass efm errors to get a working copy. However, since the majority do, your model is regarded as a 1 sheep writer, not a 2 sheep writer. (In other words, whilst your particular writer is a 2 sheep writer, the majority of those of your model are not.)

I have 2 Plex 8/20 SCSI drives and both do SD 2.51 and both pass Alexnoe's 2 sheep test so this old Plexy is a 2 sheep burner. Too bad it is the only one ....

thanks philamber for the guide to burning sd 2.8 protection

after using ddump + cdrwin = ( cdrw just to test )

ddump + fireburner = big success "Hooray"

Lite-On 40125S source & burner.

these 2 apps together make such a challenge efforless, i hope future versions of burning apps can get past this stumbling block.
