I think that people just woted for what they know with CCD, and alcohol has been hyped up recently with its ability to copy SD2.8, which now Blind Write will be able to do as well.

So BW is the choise now cos it can do both SD2.8 and SR4.7XX.

Your experience is the same as mine with NFSHP2 which means that blindwrite only goes into the "hit or miss" category along with cd-mate (usually reliable) and burnatonce (a bit less so).

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000 - problem

The game bug got to me!!

I got my Lite-On 48/12/48 cd writer. It is simply superb.

I burnt Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000. First, I made the cuesheet using disk dump and burnt the cue sheet using Nero. The burning went without a hitch. I was able to install the software using the burnt cd-r. But when I tried to play the game, I got the message "Insert the cd-rom in the drive" even though the cd-r was loaded in the drive. But the same game works fine if the original cd is in the drive. What could be the problem?

Thanks for any help.....

What copy protection does this game have? I assume safedisc but which version? (i.e. is it one that has an atip check?) If it does have an atip check, you'll need to enable clonecd's hide cd media or an equivalent utility before playing from a writer.

Also, when using nero, did you burn with standard dao or with dao96. Whilst it shouldn't do so when using standard dao, nero often has the annoying habit of correcting the errors when burning in that mode which results in a non-working copy.

Try using dao96 and, if that doesn't work, use burnatonce (freeware) or fireburner to burn the discdump image.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000 working Now

I got a working copy. I used the same cue sheet but burnt it using Fireburner 2.1.7 at 1x. I had to only burn the 1st cd(total 3cds). The remaining 2 are working properly. I think fireburner is the best software to burn cue/iso images.

Thanks everybody for your suggestions.........

Has anybody tried to use CDRWin to burn the image/cuesheet created by DDump? I mean, to copy Safedisc 2.8 with DDump+CDRWin instead of using DDump+Fireburner?

Yes, there were some posts concerning attempts with ddump + cdrwin when sd 2.8x first appeared. However, no-one who tried that method had any luck.

NFS HP2 and Lite-on 48125S

Hi all.

Whatever I tried, I cannot succesfully backup this game. I tried the latest Clonecd, with and without reading subchannels. I tried the latest Blindwrite suite. I tried DDump and burning with Nero.
All to no prevail. What more could I try? Does the 48125W have capabilities that my 48125S has not?

Thank for all help.

What settings did you use with discdump and nero and did you try to run the copy from your writer or from an ordinary cd/dvd rom?

I used the safedisc command and opended the cue in nero, should that suffice?

Sometimes with nero, it's necessary to use dao96 mode. Anyway, I see you've got a good back-up with alcohol so it no longer matters.

massive problems with Divine Divinity

OK here it comes:

- tried to do a 1:1 copy of "Divine Divinity (german)" (SD2.60)
- worked fine with every App (CloneCD, Alcohol, BlindWrite, ctc.)
- applied the official patch 1.1b -> now it's SD2.70.030 - still worked fine
- applied the latest official "HotFix7" -> resulted in SD2.80.010 - won't play anyway

and that's why I don't get it:

these patches only upgrades the files installed on HD - they don't change anything on the disc. I thought I perfectly copied the disc case it works fine even on my TOSHIBA SD-M 1202 and every other drive iI tested with.

So, here's my question:

If I made a perfect copy of any SD2.60 protected disc and it works fine on even every diferent reader and then patch the games .EXE to SD2.80.010 - why does it not play ???

please help !!!!!!

- WinXP Pro SP1
- AMD XP 1600+
- 512 MB RAM
- TOSHIBA SD-M 1202 (DVD reader)
- TEAC CDW524 (CD writer)

You almost certainly made your back-up copy with clonecd so it worked with sd 2.6x. However, there doesn't seem to be much doubt that sd 2.8x has targeted the manner in which ccd handles the deliberate bad sectors so after you patched your game it no longer recognises your copy as an "original".

I suggest that you make a new back-up copy from your original with discdump/fireburner, discjuggler or alcohol and you shouldn't have any problems after updating your game to the latest version.

OK - it seems to be a bug in Divine Divinity - maybe...

I tried
- DiscDump/Fireburner 2.1.7
- BlindWrite Suite 4.2.5
- Alcohol 1.3.5 build 1125
- DiscJuggler 4.01.967

ended in the same story as above - works fine until "HotFix7" SD2.80.010

must be a bug in HotFix7 because HotFix5 already has SD2.80.010 but copy works still fine

Are there any differences between SD2.80.010 and another SD2.80.010 ???

Or may it be possible that the Game executable is sensing the installation of programs like BW or Alcohol and won't work if they're found ???

A question about DDump+Fireburner to make backups of Safedisc 2.8. eg: Need for Speed Hot Persuit.

Q: How long does it take to read and create an image on your HDD? Is it supposed to take a while?

I'm guessing that once you have the image, burning it back to CD would be normal.

Also, if anybody has info using Discjuggler 4.01 to make backups of Safedisc 2.8, please let me know.
I apologise if these questions have already been asked. Thanks in advance.

How long it will take will depend on your reader. Using safedisc mode with my Ltd-163, typically, it takes about 13 min to dump the image of a sd 2 cd. However, occasionally, ddump refuses to use safedisc mode and switches back to standard mode in which case it will take about 35 min to complete the dump. (Even more rarely ddump's fast sector skip kicks in fully and it will then dump the cd in about 2 1/2 to 3 min but, as I said, that is very rare.)

The above times all relate to dumping an image for the first time. If you have previously used ddump to make an image and retained the log file (which you should do as it will only be about 3 to 4 kb in size), you can re-dump an image of that cd in no more time than it would take to dump an imge of an unprotected cd.

Once you've dumped the image, burning time is normal.

Thanks philamber.

I'm buying NFS Hot Persiut 2 today, so I'll post back with the results of making a backup. I thought reading might take a little while, because when I made a backup of FIFA 2002 WC (SD 2.51), it took me about 15 mins to read/create an image. So SD 2.8 would probably be the same, if not longer.

Well I did it !! w00t w00t !! A successful backup of Need for Speed Hot Persuit. Thanks to philamber and help from many people who contribute to this forum, you all rock !!

I used DDump for the image - took about 15-20 mins, then used Fireburner to burn back to CDR. Used my Liteon 48125W to read & write too. Fireburner doesn't look very fancy, but it sure gets the job done and is easy to use.

I might experiment with DiscJuggler for a bit, but if it fails, I'll just keep using the DDump+Fireburner combo for Safedisc 2.8.

Thanks to you all !!

All this focus to make a working backup... now I can sit down and actually enjoy the game !!
