Here are the settings for DiscJuggler I used:

READ
  • Ignore Read Errors
  • Read Speed - Any (I use 2x or 4x cos with slower speeds the bad sectors are read quicker)
  • Leave other settings (experiment if u want!!! )
Write
  • Wirte Speed - Any
  • Leave other settings to Default

Note:
  • philamber is right in thinking DJ (DiscJuggler) doesn't have an AWS option.
  • The version of DiscJuggler I used was v.4.01.1002 Pro and I was copying GTA III (ie: SD 2.51.021)
  • The writer i used was an O/Ced 40125w (ie: an SD Killer)

BTW good work

Btw (ii): I will edit this post with DiscJuggler settings when i have properly tested it. - i have used DJ but i forgot the settings - i am going off memory alone. Reading takes ages...but if u have the full version u can write to multiple burners.

i have to add my setup, i have made perfect backups of games (GTA3, MOHAA) with different hardware - i use a pioneer 106s dvd rom for reading and a iomega 12x10x32(plextor rebadge) with ccd 4 with default game setting and aws checked. i have also had good luck with the old philips 804(reading and writing), but will be replacing it as i have used it up...with a lite-on 40.

just a f.y.i.

hope this helps some peeps out...

I have a LITEON LTR-40125W and can make a perfect copy of GTA3. Though it is the same as a LITEON LTR-40125S only that it can be oc to a LITEON LTR-48125W. I'm assuming Lite-ons (any model) are capable of this.

Yep, any Lite-on 24x or higher can handle any version of safedisc released to date (including 2.60.052 referred to in Pirate80's post above and which is used on the latest update 1.29f of Civ 3).

Backing up without sd2k

I just wanted to add for the people that have cyberdrives (or other drives that don't kill sd2) that it can read images but you need to use either betablocker or insektors with it's appropriate images to write a working copy of the game... spending all of my time on the forums while I'm at work reading this and it wasn't explained clearly for me at first and I'd read most of the postings and stickies about backing up game cds with sd2 on them.

Get downloads for software at www.cdrinfo.com (insektor and a sleau of other schtuff too) and if you can't find it search other places like google and altavista (also edited/updated... you won't be able to find a download for betablocker that does the newest sd2.51, I searched thoughly and it's nowhere that I could find)

The upside of the constant forum searching is that you get to read a lot of information - the downside is that it's hard to find an exact post that's a complete solution to backing up. I say oh well, I have the time to dink around on here

What is this talk about Betablocker and Insektors?
I copied GTA3 (SD 2.51.021) with my non-sheep Ricoh MP-7080A just by using the default game profile! No need for any insects...

Yeah, it reads fine...

It reads fine for me as well as to an image file but i cannot burn it and make a backup to a cd with safedisk2.51 on it else it makes a coaster.... i'll try again since i like input and advice and it's worked for you, see if it works for me.

it's just my experience that i had to patch my image files because it won't write sd2.51 info to a cd because my burner can't. i convinced my dad to buy my burner and for the same price i'm charging in getting an asus, so you won't see me posting about pathetic attempts much longer

i'll try that airhead, thanks

Great idea. Just make sure you don't get the 24x. 16x, 32x, 40x and 48x are all fine (40x and 48x are reported as being superfast sd2 rippers so get one of those if you can afford it).

Reports so far indicate that safedisc 2.70.030 has no material differences to previous versions. If your writer can handle MOHAA and GTA III, it can cope with this new version too. See, for example, this thread for results with an even later version of sd2.

my Yamaha 2100S
my yamaha 3200USB
my yamaha F1E
can all burn SD2 (GTA3) with ease as long as i have AWS on. i tested it on a PC with no burner software and all the CD's worked fine.

My asus...

I recently received my asus this past tuesday and it took me maybe 13 minutes tops to copy and then record mohaa backup and it even works in my cdrom! Yes, it is indeed a happy day and now I can die playing games like a happy man without buying more of the same game

If SafeDisc 2.72 is the latest version, we must be getting close to SafeDisc version 3. Does anyone know what version SafeDisc v1 got to before SafeDisc 2 was first used?

... the anticipation.

I sure hope SD3 won't be like the PSX copy protection scheme.

thats one of those stupid comments that should just be erased... cause the sony hardware looks for it. as far as PC... you would have to change every CD-ROM to look for regienal code... and the laser just cant do that...

I reckon that SD3 will either be:

A new gen copy-protection like CD-COPS / VOB ProtectCD or it will be an evolution of SafeDisc 2 with new, harder to copy weak sectors (and there are some)

It's my first post here... i'm really excited, i've been lurking this forum for a year and an half or so ! I think that Safedisc Analyzer can suit your needs... i think you can find it at Gamefix.
I had a strange result with a safedisc 2.80.10 protected game (I think its title is FourFourTwo Touchline Passion in U.K., in Italy is 442 World Football 2003); before reading this post, i made a copy with CloneCD 4.0.1.10 and the Safedisc profile found in this forum, with mi Liteon LTD163D DVD-ROM as reader & my Liteon 40125S CD-RW as writer; the game does install from both, but doesn't run in the 40125S with Hide CD-R... the strange thing is that in the DVD, if I enable Hide CD-R, it works, if it's not enabled, it gives me an error! How comes?
BTW I'm now trying to make a backup copy with DiscDump... hope it'll work!

Ehm.. sorry for my English...

You can get a combined safedisc and securom analyser from a link in this thread and remember to thank [yAtEs] for making it available.

yeah, use Google to search for 'Yet another Protection Scanner' (YaPS). this tool is really simple and easy to use, with a small file size. it will also detect the latest version of the secuROM new protection.
