audio cd protection

Hello
I purchased a live recording (on cdr) at a record fair.
It plays fine on my cd player (but the total time for the 17 tracks the cd
player shows is 30 seconds!!!)
but when I put it on my PC, EAC sees the disc as having 17 data tracks, the
last one being very big (like the sum of the previous 16) and I cannot make
a copy with it.
Same results with NERO

I tried Clone CD but it doesn´t work (it reads the whole cd in a few
seconds).

What kind of protection copy did the seller add?
And how can I make a copy?

My cdrw drive ia a TEAC 540W

The Pioneer 106 DVDRW recorder does not even recognize the disc.

Thanks for your help

Alex

What does Windows explorer see? How many tracks?

You say the cd player shows the tracks of lenght 30sec, have you tried playing the cd on a stand alone player? Does it see more than 30sec? Are the tracks full lenght according to a stand alone cd player?

By saying the last track is huge, almost as if a composite of all the previous ones seems like someone tried to integrate a mixed cd (Audio + Data).

Also try AudioCatalyst.

My standalone cd player plays the 17 tracks without problems.

All tracks play ok, with the correct lengt.

But as you know, when you place a cd on a cd player, without pressing play, it gives you the info on the display: number of tracks and total length of the audio cd.

This cd says 17 tracks, total 0:30 time. This means 30 seconds of audio.

But the total time is about 65 minutes and the disc plays fine.

What I want to know is what kind of copy protection the seller used and how to make an audio copy on my PC.

This is an FM recording on CDR. It´s the seller that added copy protection to the cdr.

EAC sees 17 data tracks and doesn´t allow me to make an audio copy.

CLONECD "allows me to copy" but it makes an image in 5 seconds (because the program sees the discs as it if was 30 second long

Thanks for your help

Sounds like maybe an illegal TOC(Table of contents). I have never had AudioCatalyst fail me yet, and never used Exact Audio Copy well enough to know exactly where the option is, but somewhere in the menu's is an option called something similar to retreive real table of contents or ignore table of contents.

Look for this option and see ifit helps. If the TOC was intentionally changed, then EAC will be able to rip the tracks.

Just installed it for the heck of it.

Try looking under "Action" file menu then move mouse down to "TOC Alterations" and choose "retrieve native TOC" which is the only sub option anyway.

Report back if that helped any.
Good Luck.

I. Identify Copy Protection, Helpful Hints, Posting Rules

II. AnyDVD - CCD1st session

III. Copying Cactus DS200.0.4 - 3.0 build 16c with the LiteOn and Feurio :

Example - DePhazz 'Daily Lama' 2002

1. TOC Detection :

2. Detected as CD Extra :

3. Disabling 'Read Subchannel Data'

Important ! In order to avoid seeing this :

goto : Feurio CD manager > Program > Device Parameters >
'Device Parameters' tab > 'Special Parameters button' > ' Subchannel data ( index) ' tab >
uncheck ' Read Subchannel data at 'Read CD' '
'Don't read subchannel data' will be unchecked automatically.

"Don't read subchannel data:

Reading subchannel data is deactivated, no index information can be read.

From: Feurio! CD-Writer online help (c) by Fangmeier Systemprogrammierung"

4. Choosing 1st session :

5. Copy's done :

TEAC & HW/SW investigation

Well, I'm afraid this is a hardware issue.
As you can see below my TEAC cannot see a copy protected disc no matter the software
( well, unfortunately the same with my Plex when using PlexTools & EAC ).

TEAC ( & Plex ) w Plextools :

LiteOn w Plextools :

LiteOn w Eazy CD-DA X-tractor & EAC :

Yammi w Eazy CD-DA X-tractor & EAC :

Plex doesn't work w EAC, but the CD is properly detected by EZ CD-DA X :

TEAC w Eazy CD-DA X-tractor & EAC - hopeless case :

TEAC & Feurio is not a good combination in this case either :

Résumé : cheznouss, perhaps you'd need another drive, best of all LiteOn/Asus, to be able to copy your disc.

Let your friend to get another drive, the one that is capable of reading copy prots.

As you can see above, I didn't use EAC to bypass Cactus.
