What's wrong? /compatibility/ how? Ok, i've read most of the threads concerning my problem: I rip using Decryptor, like most of you. I use dvd2one (actually it's a friend of mine who does that, he bought the program and buys the discs, i bought the dvd-burner )Ok so far. Now i really really really need the copy to work on ANY DVD STANDALONE PLAYER (especially sony) and so i read some threads in here that dvd2one doesn't make the right IFO FILES (or at least that they could be better, and give glitches of some sort; or are not always 100% compatible with all dvd player) and that those files should be processed again through IFOEDIT. So i did what was explained in the thread 'layer changes' ((vob extra's --> make new and correct ifo's; select new directory, right?) strangely enough he seems to be processing the vob files as well as the ifo files and the process takes nearly as long as the re-encoding of dvd2one; if this is NOT supposed to happen, let me know please.) Then i copy the newly made ifo files over the old ones (made by dvd2one) and process them again through ifoedit ('get VTS sectors' right?) Ok, now i make the two folders and copy the lot to the VIDEO_TS folder. Then i burn with an older version of Nero (.9.14) since i heard that these versions are ok; but the last versions suck. I also read that i should burn it as a data dvd (udf/iso) using UDF 1.02, since Nero burns the video dvd's using UDF 1.5 which aren't compatible with all standalones. I also select burn at once, no multisession. Ok, this is what i read to be the most succesfull method, yet it doesn't even play on my pcdrive. It stops after 17 minutes or when you try to skip scenes!!! The media i use are 'white princo's' and they have proven to be compatible with my DVR-105 (pioneer) V1.00. WHAT'S GOING WRONG? Am i doing something wrong? Is it the IFOedit stuff? Or is it Nero? If it ís Nero, should i use recordnow; if so: with what settings because i find it a horrible program (recordnow 4.5 ). I can't even select a 'dvd' option. So how do i write a videodvd? like a data project but with the two folders? Please help us out, we're not planning on 'burning' our life savings on this.

Not sure what is causing your particular problem but this may help. As for compatibility with any standalone player, that is not possible. DVD-R claims 88% compatibility with players, -RW 69%, +R 84% and +RW 70%, but you will see different claimed numbers at various sites. I have the same burner as you with the 1.21 firmware and have had poor luck with the Princo discs, work fine for the first 90% of the movie, but the last few chapters frequently have errors. I'm using Prassi Primo DVD to burn my discs using DVD data mode. When using quality media will burn at max speed error free. With cheap media, I set it at 1x for best results.

Ok, thanks so we just might have thrown our money away then (cuz his dvd player is one of the first sony's, don't know the exact model, but it was pretty expensive like three years ago; and we really wanted it to work on that standalone; and since sony's are always crap with compatibility, those 11% surely includes that model i guess). But what really bothers me is that it didn't even work on my dvd-rom drive! Nor did it work on the recorder itself! Yet all the other (princo) discs i burned didn't have any problem. But this movie dvd just froze after 17 minutes on my dvd-rom and even caused my other pc (with the recorder) to reboot! So next time i'll try other discs. But can anyone confirm the method i discribed above? Or are there flaws in my method too? Also, is this ifoedit actually necessary, does it actually improve compatibility? Cuz it's pretty time consuming. And people that use recordnow? Just burn as a data dvd? special settings? etc..?

Download the latest version of nero 5.5.10.7b because as they say: "Fixed the bug which produced incompatible Video-DVDs not playable on some DVD-players" And i agree with you RecordNow is definitively NOT my prefered DVDWriting Soft. ![]() But if you want to write a video DVD you just have to select a Data DVD and drag and drop a folder Named VIDEO_TS Recordnow will then recognize it and switch to Video DVD mode ![]() I doesn't test the "new" nero Yet but if you do tell me if it's work ...
