| It may be ata compatable, but maybe not 100%. I have seen this problem numerous amount of times. Usually a good sign is say you have both drive installed and you turn the system on. Windows recognizes the drive everything seems to function good. Then you select restart computer, computer reboots and this time the drive is not showing up. This is usually because a drive is not 100% ATA compatable. Other symptoms could be trying to run 2 drives and you just can't get the bios to recognize both drives together. DELL, that means nothing, dell buys oem from somewhere. What are the actual drive manufacturers. Look up the models of the drives. good luck |

| I GOT IT TO WORK!!!! It turns out the ribbon extension cable I made up had a short in it. I put the female connector on incorrectly. I did some calculations using a dual layered DVD and the ROM drive is reading it 2.3X faster than the Pioneer A05. That means a DVD that took 45 min to read now takes only 19.6 min. I love it! Plus the new 4X media is working as advertised, 4X faster. Thank you to everyone who helped me with this. You guys are terrific! |
