Faster DVD Decoding

I am trying to decrease the time it takes to decode DVDs in general before transcoding with DVD2one or burning directly. I used to get a general range between 3 and 5x with my older Samsung DVD combo drive. I have just picked up a new Samsung combo drive SM-352 (DVD 16x read) and am getting either the same read rate or slightly better at around 8x average. I have read some posts here from folks who have attained a mucher higher read rate, I believe close to 16x. Should I be looking at a better DVD-R drive?

My quick specs:
Intel P4 2.6 HT, 512, ATI 7500 64, (2) WD EIDE 160s, Samsung SM 352 DVD-R Combo, Sony DRU-510A Burner with firmware updates to 4x, XP SP-1, DVD Decrypter v3.1.6.0, DVD2one, Nero v6.0.

TIA,

NYCwave

Speed up suggestions!

I have had fairly good luck with 16x LITE-ON drives but I do not get 16x ripping, except rarely. Ripping speed seems to be DVD specific, and varies dramatically. The average being 6x to 8x.

I have been using "anyDVD" to rip on the fly and save time as you can process directly with D2O and some other programs. There is supposed to be another freeware program here...

http://www.dvdidle.com/DVDRegionFree30Beta1.exe
which is reported to do the same as anyDVD.

I have also used CopyToDvd to automate the burning process after processing. When all work correctly, you can get a finished copy in about a half hour. Good luck.

I don't know if DvdRF has _all_ the functionality of AnyDvd...
but it's free; at least--the beta is.
Haven't tried it...does it deal with W98?

It certainly doesn't seem to remove CSS protection. And while the beta appears to be free or without expiration, the release version looks to cost slightly more than AnyDVD.

Have you guys tested this one?

The guy from DvdRegionFree claims that it has the beta has the same functionality as "anyDVD", and he also claims it removes all the copy guards.

DVD Region-Free do remove the CSS, it also remove the "Region Code", "RCE - Region Code Enhancement", "Macrovision" and "User Operation Prohibitions".[/quote] Best Regards,
Fengtao

I am not sure his claims are accurate. Have you guys actually tested the beta and found his claims false? If so can you provide any details, movie titles, etc?

I read what you quoted previously in another forum and that's why I gave the program a try. I have had zero success using DVD Region-free in removing css on the fly for processing with DVD2One (1.23). I tried about a half dozen different DVDs, both trying whole disk and movie only. DVD2One always gave an "encrypted" or "protected disk" error meaning that css was not removed. Results were the same whether I used my Liteon DVD-Rom driver or Pioneer DVD-RW burner drive. Testing AnyDVD instead produces success every time.

Just an update - Fengtao sent me the latest beta (actually called RC1) of DVD Region-Free and it works perfectly so far with DVD2One. This version definitely removes css. I'm still going to have to do side by side tests but it appears to me that it actually works faster than AnyDVD.

It appears that Fengtao has made the RC1 version of DVD Region-Free available to the public now.

This program is going to give AnyDVD a run for its money. I do think that it is a bit overpriced for what it does though. As do I feel about AnyDVD as well.
