wow dvd-5 eh? Region two is the PAL region right? I recently backed up the NTSC version of Final Destination 2, and it was far from 4.5gigs, somewhere around 8 if I remember correctly. It was dual-sided as well, one side containing widescreen, and the other fullscreen.

Hi, Most R2 DVD releases are smaller in size than the R1 release. You will find that the R1 release will have more extras and stuff included on it. Thats my 2 cents of info for you. 1st post sice I registered months ago ![]() Also DVD2One has greatly helped with the processing of DVD's I remember having to rip audio streams etc.. out and making them smaller hehe

I wish there was a web-site and/or listing somewhere of all dvd-5, R1 DVDs. Hate renting them and finding that they are 9's. My preference is not to use DVD2one, only as a last resort. I can't keep worrying about quality, simply want to sit back and enjoy the movie.

| well the region 2 pal equlibrium didnt have DTS and no trailers or special features. it had just a menu the movie and 5.1 digital. final, destination 2 on the other hand had a few extra`s and special fetures... aswell as DTS and 5.1 digital also 2 other sound tracks including comentery. it was a little bigger 7.50gig ======================================= I was very dissapointed that last monday at our local blockbusters those 2 movies where only out for rental. what happened to the dam retail sales. i suppose it comes down to this that those 2 companys are greedier than the rest and want rental sales then buy sales. ![]()

It excists more than one version of region 2 Equilibriums. The German Version is much different as the britisch for excample. On the German (pal Region2) DVD of Equilibrium is a DTS track and much other stuff. And all of this stuff is about over 8GB

Like you, I want to enjoy the movie; but for me, that means all are run through D2O regardless of size (I hate extras/warnings/'previews'/etc.). IMO, when there is more than one size in varied movie/region releases, it makes no difference whatsoever once they are processed by D2O for a final, given size. If the production house squeezes encoding some more for a Region 2 release, and a Region 1 isn't--the film and initial bitrate-sensitive scenes/etc. once handled by either the production encoder, or D2O, seem to be of the same quality once both are finally processed to the same-size backup. I think this speaks well for recent D2O quality-improvements. Last edited by loggy; 03-08-2003 at 16:34. | |

loggy Thanks much for your take on conversions, etc. I got spolied when DVDs first came out...luv those extras, videos, etc. Basically I want the entire DVD (if its DVD-5), don't even care if it includes the 4x3 version, much prefer 16x9..as long as its DVD-5. Hey, I'll just go to Japan or Korea and pickup a DVD-9 burner with media to match, until then theres DVD2one. Daemonicus Thanks so much for the link!! Really appreciate it.. NYCwave

Actually, it is possible to make *near full DVD copies* of DVD-9's, without the need for D2O. Off the top of my head, i can come up with : National Security Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels Snatch I'm sure there are more out there, I"ll have to go through my collection to verify the one's i've encountered. Anyways the catch is that you need to strip something out. With these three for example, All I did was remove the full screen version and only kept the Widescreen version. After removing the vob's and correcting the vts sectors, you'll find that these three titles are under 4.36 gigs. The lesson is, if you encounter a movie that has two versions of the same movie, often times removing one of them will bring down the overall size of the dvd, allowing you to keep all the extras and menus with zero quality loss. If anyone would like me to post a basic tutorial on how this is done, i'd be more than happy to oblige ![]()

Here ya go =D, if any clariflication is needed please ask Tools Needed: DvD Decrypter MenuEdit IFO Edit One DVD -/+ RW Burning Software First off, you need to rip the dvd using the file mode option in DvD Decrypter. Make sure you select EVERY file. Once this is done, its time to figure out which of the VOB's are the Movie files. This is generally a very simple thing to do, but just incase, they usually end with a file size of "0.99 gigs" and are numbered sequentially, i.e "VTS_01_1 , VTS_01_2 etc". Keep in mind however, that there will be to sets of VOB that are numbered sequentially. One containing the 4X3 version, and the Other the 16X9. Once the files have been located, and you've decided which of the two you want to keep (I usually choose 16X9 for personal reasons), its time to get rid of the files. I'll use the movie "National Security" as an example. The widescreen version comes on the "Vts_01_*.vob" title set (with vts_01_0.vob being the main menu). While the Fullscreen Version comes on the "vts_05_*.vob" title set (with vts_05_0.vob being a filler vob). I'm assuming that you'll want to keep the widescreen version and get rid of the fullscreen version. So, all you have to do is delete the VOB'S containing the fullscreen version of the movie, in this case being vts_05_1.vob and all the rest in its title set. Make sure you leave the vts_05_0.vob file as it serves as a place holder. Ok, now that you've deleted those, fire up IFO edit and open up the Video_TS.ifo file. Once its open click on the "Get VTS sectors" button. It'll ask you if you want to process all the IFO files, click on yes. For some reason IFO edit never process ALL the .ifo files for me, so i'd suggest that you open all the other .ifo files manually and click on "Get VTS sectors" for each of the .ifo files. Ok, now that the dvd is structured correctly it should play fine in most DVD players, however, if someone were to click on the fullscreen version button while playing the dvd, the DVD player would lock up. We can remedy this by using MenuEdit. Fire up MenuEdit and open up the VOB file that contains the widescreen/fullscreen selection menu. In the case of National Security, that file would be vts_01_0.vob. You should now be presented with a collapsable menu that lists the VobID's in that particular file. This is where it can get a bit tricky, you need to find the particular Cell ID that contains the widescreen/fullscreen selection menu. MenuEdit helps you out with this by listing how many buttons are in that particular Cell ID. BTW you can check exactly what a particular Cell ID is by double clicking it, it'll give you a basic view of how the buttons are laid out, which should help you in discerning which CellID is which. For National Security, we know it has 2 buttons, so we look for the Cell ID that lists 2 buttons. Again for National Security, this particular Cell ID is under VobID 1 > CellID 4. Once you've found the CellID, delete the button that links to the fullscreen version, you'll be asked to save, do so. ****NOTE the rest of the guide is written for the Latest Version of NERO Burning Rom After thats done, you're all set to burn the compilation. You might encounter a "DVD file reallocation" error when using the "DVD-Video" setting in NERO. If this is the case you will need to burn the compilation using the "DVD-ROM (UDF/ISO)" setting in NERO. All of the settings should be similar to what you see when you burn a DVD using the "DVD-Video" settings except for the UDF tab. All that needs to be done on this tab is to check the "force DVD-Video compatibility mode" box. Adjust everything else as you would normally. Once thats done, click on the new button. Everything should be similar as to what you see normally when you choose the "DVD-Video" option, with exception that the compilation doesn't have the standard "VIDEO_TS" and "AUDIO_TS" folders. Just right click the compilation and choose add folder, make sure to create two folders, one labeled "VIDEO_TS" and the other "AUDIO_TS", without the quotation marks. Once that's done, just move you're DVD files into the VIDEO_TS folder and burn away. You'll notice that the error message is gone, let NERO do its thing, and hopefully if you followed the directions as listed, you should have a working copy of your movie =D. AS WITH ALL NEW THINGS, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE USE A DVD-/+RW, you'll save yourself a great deal of money and frustration with these.

Re: Equlibrium DVD5 :) you can back it up with no compression :) i found a pretty neat program. DVDStripper you can basically rip out any part of the movie you want, and it will update your ifo file automatically. very handy for ripping out 4:3 from a disk with both wide and full screen. you can also go thru each file and remove things you dont want, such as warnings, previews, etc...
