encrypted data error

Well, I purchased DVD2ONE figuring the troubles I was having had to be due to the version I downloaded from the newsgroups while the site was down...but now I'm $40 poorer and still having the same trouble.

I rip the DVD with DVDdecrypter (I've also tried smartripper). Run DVD2ONE and at different points get an error saying it has found "encrypted date" and will not work with such.

Is no one else having this problem?

I'm using disc 1 from the extended version of LotR, but I also tried a different DVD and has the same result.

Help?

It would be nice to see some sort of response from the makers of DVD2ONE...

I just tried ripping as an image with DVDdecrypter then mounting the image with daemon tools and running DVD2ONE from there...but no luck. Same "encrypted data" msg, just at a different point.

Some help please.

You may want to change the settings on Smartripper to check for a CSS key every VOBID or Chapter or something like that..I dont think there is such an option in DVDDecrypter. Let us know if this works

Thanks, I'm giving that a try right now. Smartripper and every chapter since it seems to get part way through the Vobs when an error comes up. Will let you know if I have any luck.

Feedback was much appreciated.

No luck.

Could someone give a "click by click" working setup for Smartripper or DVDdecrypter?

Thanks for any help.

Do you rip from the A04 writer?

If so, you should consider getting a fast DVD-ROM drive. You should be able to get a 16x or faster for less than 50$ canadien.

It is not recommend to RIP from a DVD-writter drive. And it might just solve your problem.

Well, I still have my old DVD-Rom around...any suggestions as to the best connection setup? Slave DVD-R to HD, or DVD-ROM to HD, or the two DVD drives on one chan?

I still can't get DVD2ONE to work. Same problem with "encrypted data" as stated earlier. I've gone and re-installed my old DVD-ROM and tried ripping from that to see if it made a difference. No luck.

I've even let DVD2SVCD rip the vobs with its internal tools and DVD2ONE tells me these are encrypted as well. Am I correct in assuming that DVD2SVCD decrypts as well as rips?

I've done many rips with DVDdecrypter and Smartripper, and never had a problem doing conversions with TMPGEnc...and the same goes for DVD2SVCD with TMPGenc.

I can play the ripped vobs with my media player.

I've tried re-installing the ripping programs and updating my ASPI drivers. I'm really at a loss here.

I'm running WinXP HOME on an Athalon T-bird 900, with a 30 gig drive and a pioneer DVD-r 104...I've since put my old ASUS DVD rom back in the system and my CD/RW drive as well.

help? =(

As stated by most others here, it really sounds like an authentication problem with your drive(s).
DVD2one needs his data to be uncompressed because of obvious reasons we can not decrypt the data for you.

I'am terribly sorry but i can't think of a simple solution it really sounds like a conflict somewhere in your hardware setup

This is a very strange problem.

Other possible solutions:

- Did you upgrade your Win XP (all patches and service pack)?
- What language is your XP? French or english

- You could also re-install Win XP. Make sure you backup all your personnal files and documents. Then format your HD and re-install Win XP. After that, upgrades XP with all latest paths and service paths. Then only install DVD2one and DVDdecrypter and make a test.

=> The problem may be cause by something you install and a clean installation is only way to have a clean system.

Try re-downloading the DVD2one program. It may have been a corrupt download.

This is what I can think of right now since it looks like you did everything what I would have done.

hope this helps.

I did 23 movies for testing and 1 movie fails with the same error.
The movie is called 'Bleed' . it SEEMS like it that this was the ONLY
dvd that was under 4.3 Gb without ripping anything.
Movie only on a DVD without fancy stuff
Of course everything was done with DVDDecrypter.

Format and clean install of WinXP made no difference.

Tried with different DVD drives and no luck.

Tried with both Smartripper and DVDdecrypter, no go.

Tried ripping to an image, mounting the image, and ripping with smartripper/dvddecrypter from the image...still get the encryption error with DVD2ONE.

One other person has sent me email saying they are having the same problem. They have a completely different setup than mine.

Doh, we are running out of options here:

- Did you re-download dvd2one?

Check region for your dvd rom drive:

- Right click on "My computer"
- Choose "properties"
- Go the "hardware" tab
- Click Device Manage button
- Explode the DVD/CD-ROM drives
- Right click on the DVD-ROM line and choose propeties
- Go the DVD region tab
- Make sure the proper region is selected. (1 since your canadien)

**UPDATE**

I got the message "Encryted Data detected" with movie "Murder By Numbers". Its the only movie that did this to me so far.

Just an update...a positive but not very helpful update...

First: I did another format/reinstall of WinXP for unrelated reasons.

Second: Decided to backup Chasing Amy with DVD2SVCD. Let DVD2SVCD rip the main movie vobs...then thought since the Vobs are already there I'll let DVD2ONE have another crack at them.

Third: Ran DVD2ONE and 30 minutes later I had my backup of Chasing Amy done.

I had tried letting DVD2SVCD rip it in previous attempts and had no luck. Don't know what is different this time around.

At any rate, the next step is to try Lord Of The Rings again and see if that works this time.

Thanks to all for their help with this problem.

Tried another movie (Zardoz) after the success of Chasing Amy...and no go.

Used the exact same ripping method, same program, changed nothing on my computer and still got the encrypted data error.

I am having the same issue (encrypted data error) with some titles as well. Some work, others do not. This needs to be addressed.

ReneB-
What specifically would cause this error, as now it appears that others are having the same issue randomly occur with certain titles? What part of the VOB file is the application looking for that tell it the data has not been decrypted properly? I suspect this is contained in the PES header. Can this data be modified so that your application will not detect the source as encrypted? I have used Smart Ripper, DVD Decrypter, and a Linux based ripper as well. All produce VOB's that this application rejects on certain titles. It is my opinion that this is not an envionmental setup issue (OS, service pack rev, DVD-ROM brand, Region setting, etc...) Please advise.

thanks

STUFF TO TRY

Here are some things i think you should try...they sound simple, but they could make all the difference.

1. REMOVE / UNINSTALL ALL OTHER cd-burning/emulation/virtual-drive/ripping progs. Only DVD-DECRYPTER and DVD2ONE and RECORDNOW 4.5 are allowed.

2. Run norton win-doctor to make sure there are no other probs with windows.

3. Run norton DISK DOCTOR to ensure there are no probs with HD.

4. Get DVD/ CD HEAD CLEANER and use it on the drive you intend to 'read from'.

5. when running DVD2ONE ensure that NO OTHER APPS are running, eg. anti-virus, pc probe, firewall, motherboard monitor, indexing.

6. make sure your DVD drive is set to region 1 (usa)

7. open your computer and make sure all CABLES and CARDS are firmly inserted

8. run a Hardware Diagnostic util , make sure to test RAM, PROCESSOR, and HD.

9.. make sure you use XP , and that your file-system is NTFS.

10. make sure that your READER is attached to a diff Channel on your mboard. Ideally you shuld have your HD as master on IDE1, and your BURNER as master on ide2

11. Try reading with your BURNER instead of a DVD-ROM.

Same problem here with "Bad Luck" Region 2, on a PC named "Moviemaker'': Bare minimum WinXP,NTFS, only DVD related apps, no Norton. Tried DVDDecrypter, DVD2SVCD, SmartRipper.
First case after about 30 backups.
I really think this is a rogue bug that should be looked into.

Well, I hate to sayIm' glad to see others with the problem...but at least now its more likely to be solved. For me having DVD2ONE work is the exception rather than the rule.

Laltoo, I have tried a clean install of XP with no other software running and had the same problem. I've tried ripping from different drives, from a system with a lone drive on a sepperate chann ect...from my writer as well as from a sepperate ROM.

I will have to look into some diagnostic software like Win-Doctor and see if it finds anything.

Thanks for the feedbak
