DVD2one works great so far!

I registered this program and have the full version.

www.dvd2one.com

Although I only have backed up two of my DVDs, I like it so far.

The program is amazingly small and fast - works exactly as advertised.

I have not tried the DVD2SVCD method of backing up DVDs (actually I have never backed up a DVD movie before using DVD2one) so I cannot directly compare if the quality is better/worse to other methods. I can say that I think the quality is still amazing and most will probably not tell a difference from the original DVD.

Has anyone else tried DVD2one and have any experience with it?

Hope that the author adds complete backup features etc. so all the menus remain intact... I realize this would result in less room for the actual movie but it still would be neat to have and still better quality than SVCD!

From what the website says, the software doesn't have a built-in
burning software (ala DVDXCOPY),so you have to have your own,but they recommend you NOT use Nero! Why would they not include one of the best (IMHO) burning apps know to man?

The registered version is a 94K executeable that you download - not even zip'd or rar'd.

You can only encode 30-mins using the trial, but it gives you an idea of how fast it is and the quality.

Go look at the website an there is a how to use section that explains better than I could - even has screenshots.

Ruffrob, Myself, like many others found that Nero did not make DVDs that play in 100% of all stand-alone players (those that are able to read DVDR I mean). It may work in many but not all. Other programs like StompInc RecordNowMax burn correctly. I have 4 stand-alone DVD players and one of them would not work with Nero. Whether or not Nero has this fixed in latest versions I do not know, and do not care because I don't need it and do not wish to waste time trying. Obviously the author of DVD2one seems to think that Nero is not the best.

Dolf,I don't think you'll be able to do that since the demo only allows you to copy a percentage of the movie. I downloaded it,and once I found there was no included burning app,I removed it from my system. SmartRipper/DVD Decrypter and some other apps do the same for free.

IM,I agree with you, while Nero is one of the greatest,it doesn't work with everything....

I've had a play with it. You have to rip the DVD to HD first, I couldnt get it to do anything directly off the DVD. Yep it was fast alright and the quality looks good, but then I trialed it on a 47min DVD so no real encoding needed to be done.

However, by clicking on either IFO file it produced, WinDVD would normally start the movie playing, but refused to play anything. I had to actually click on the *.VOB file for PC playback. That tells me its not authored properly.

If they dont recommend Nero, what do thet recommend then? I am now using Nero almost exclusively for DVD burning and not had one problem. Ver 5.5.10.0 DOES have problems though, but any of the 5.5.9.x are okay.

Tell me ,CM,how does this one stack up to your DVD Decrypter method. I know it's fast, but is that the only advantage?? And what setting in Nero do you use??

ChickenMan, were you using the trial version?

The trial version is limited to 30 minutes of video, but it still makes the .IFO as the DVD is normal size (ie. greater than 30 mins.).

I had a problem with the trial where one of my stand-alone players would not play (a very picky player btw) the DVD made with the trial. When I got the full version and re-did, the DVD plays fine. Maybe WinDVD has same problem.

I notice when playing trial DVD on the Xbox I could jump to chapters that didn't physically exist and the screen would just be black.

The author says he is fixing this in the trial version.

I found my problem with not playing with WinDVD, it has to be in a VIDEO_TS folder! Silly me. I would have expected the software to make that folder and dump it all in there. For the newbie, that would be a problem.

Can you tell me the bitrate of the VOB file before encoding and what the bitrate was after using this software and also what what the original length in Gig and final ltotal length after using the software.

Its 42oC here in Oz at the moment, I think my heads boiling, no I think its scrambled ! Sh!t its hot !

ChickenMan,

One that I did - ripped VIDEO_TS folder was 5.27GB. The average bitrate of 1st VOB was 4797 and 10932 Peak (42601 frames).

DVD2one took 17:58 minutes to re-encode.

The new VIDEO_TS that DVD2one made is 4.3GB. The average bitrate of 1st VOB was 4185 and 10459 Peak (50327 frames).

Oke i bought the programm, only 94kb in size
Ripped the movie The Rock with Smartripper to my HD

runned dvd2one and after 30 min (p3 1000mhz) it nicely cut to 4.36 Gb, runned Nero and Burned it to DVD+RW and my pioneer played it perfectly.

AC3 sound and subs and perfect quaility.

I bought it too and it works great indeed.
I only got one question, does a multipassed re-encoded film looks better or the same?

I ripped the pal version of de extended version of LOTR, and reencoded it in 72 minutes on my laptop (p3 1.2 Ghz, 384 MB, 48 GB ibm travelstore) so it's fast indeed, I only hope that Erwin will add multipass reencode as an option.

Guess that the laptop's harddrive is the problem.

I am afraid some of us miss the point:
All users who consider "2 disks in 1" expect some loss of quality since re-encoding is implied. They only hope to end up with "sub-DVD but over s-VHS" quality level on one DVD-R disc.
This is proven by the fact that there are tenths of software and maybe a million users "out there" fighting with this issue.
Problem is, (after ripping and before burning), it takes 4-9 hours(!!!)to end up with an acceptable solution (and a lot of tweaking) and still you are left with the tricking DVD-Authoring procedure to go (Ifo-editing and all this).
With DVD2one, after ripping and before burning, it takes 3 clicks(!!!) and 23 minutes(!!!) to end up with the authored content to burn from LOTR (a neraly 3 hour film). This is magic to most of the people above who have used expensive encoders and lots of time to reach the same point.
I "IFOedited" the resaults for testing purposes and realised DVD2one had done a perfect authoring.
What is more, I watched a portion of the film (on home cinema apparatus) with 3 friends and nobody understood it was not the original.

I understand...

I know some people are very pleased and have purchased DVD2ONE, but the fact is the software is totally illegal and will end up on the net to download from almost anywhere because of what it claims it can do....

So it will just take a few days for it to appear all over, so whos gonna be the first to post it, I myself would like to hear more about it and what other people say before I buy it, as I've been stung before with bogus software claiming to do all this and more.

I would if once I burned my first dvd with this and tested the restults, be prepared to pay but 42euros for a 94K file is quite a lot of dosh especially if it cant do what it says.

I think they should mark the price down as it will attract more people to buy it instead of pirating it in the first place.

Like I said all in all its just gonna take a short while for it to appear on the net in its full glory....
