DVD2One Discuss, DVD2One having problems with non-encrypted DVDs? at Copy Movie forum; I downloaded the DVD2One trial version and have a DVD that is segmented into 3 parts. I thought I would just backup the first segment which is only 24 minutes...this would be perfect for the 30 minute limit on the trial. Problem is that after I rip the IFO

DVD2One having problems with non-encrypted DVDs?

I downloaded the DVD2One trial version and have a DVD that is segmented into 3 parts. I thought I would just backup the first segment which is only 24 minutes...this would be perfect for the 30 minute limit on the trial. Problem is that after I rip the IFO and VOBs, DVD2One says that the files are encrypted and will not proceed. Funny thing is that I have ripped these 3 different times, once with DVDDecrypter, once with Smart Ripper and once with vStrip and the same thing happens with any of these. While ripping, I notice that each program tells me that there is no encryption (also non-protected) and region is free to begin with. The particular DVD is a skateboarding DVD that belongs to my son. Is this typical with non-encrypted DVDs? In other words, when ripped, the files appear as though they are encrypted while files that are originally encrypted show up as non-encrypted after the rip? The reason I ask is because when I used a DVD that was obviously encrypted and region 1 to begin with, DVD2One worked perfectly. Any comments on this would be appreciated. I have several non-protected, region free discs I want to back up and depending on this issue it may determine if I buy the full version or not.

For non-encrypted DVD's why not use a copy DVD to DVD method found in Nero,or Record Now? Hope this helps....

Well, there are two reasons why I don't want to do that.
1. I wanted to try DVD2One to back up my non-encrypted DVDs.
2. Copying with Nero or RNM won't shrink the movies down to fit on one disc. Any suggestions? Should I just try to copy the IFO and VOBs straight to my HD (haven't tried that yet) and then use DVD2One with those files? Hmmmm.

Your number 2 solution soumds like a plan, once dvd2one shrinks the files, you may be able to put them on one disc if you combine the files in the burning program

Hi,

This is a bit of a side issue, but if you select a PGC that is only 24 minutes long, DVD2One won't re-encode it since more than likley, it will fit on one DVD-R unaltered. (If DVD2One notices that a stream will fit on a DVD-R unaltered then it won't touch it and will simply re-mux the streams and modify the ifo's )

To really test the software, chose the main part of a DVD where the movie must be re-encoded to fit. Saving Private Ryan or Pearl Harbour are good choices as you will also be able to see how the program handles scenes with lost of movement and action.

Thanks Goober, since that DVD is in sections and all are about the same length... 24-30 mins or so, I'll try DVD2One with a full-length feature. Do you think that just copying the VOBs along with its IFO file of the non-encrypted DVD into the same structure as a DVD and then burning it will work? I really want to back-up this section of the above mentioned DVD.

Not really sure what you are trying to achieve but if you want to back up a 24 minute section then copy vob to hard drive-run ifoedit and and pick 'create ifos' -stick the resulting files in a VIDEO_TS folder and burn this folder with prassi. you whould have a working dvd then, albeit small.
If you want to test program do as above and choose a film like pearl harbour or hannibal and view the results, no point wasting time copying stuff you can just disc to disc with any copying program.

if you have larger dvds split into vobs of about 24 minutes like the one mentioned above just write them to your drive as above, and rename them in a sequence till you reach the dvd5 size limit then do as above again with ifo edit-think this is what your trying to do but appologies if Ive misunderstood your intentions

I am getting the same error on a few titles as well. Some work flawlessly; some do not. There is another thread on this on the board. Don't waste your time changing your OS, memory, HDD or settings. It will not change the error. I literally have the ability to switch between 5 different OS builds using Ghost and it made no difference. I am willing to bet that this is a bug in that app.

I have ripped dozens of DVD's before DVD2ONE came out and have never seen an "encrypted data" error until now. I have used DVD Encrypter, Smart Ripper and a Linux based ripper and they all produce files (for some titles) that DVD2ONE refuses to process.

I am interested to hear Erwin's comments on this.

Yes, I am interested in what Erwin has to say too....seems to only happen on my discs that are non-encrypted....to that's why I mentioned just copying VOBs to the HD directly instead of ripping...btw, thanks youngpa....I think you understood me. But for now, just testing so I'll write the 24 to DVD-RW so I don't waste, unless someone can tell me how to make an image file I can load up in Daemon Tools to check out with my PowerDVD. I do have Ifo-Edit, so can do what you say about the IFO files!

I have a similar error, but not quite the same.
I have ripped "Lord of the rings 1" using Smartripper in "Backup" mode and DVD2ONE will compress it perfectly. However, If I rip the DVD using Smartrippers "Movie" mode, then DVD2ONE refuses to process the vob files. The time elapsed, remaining and total never get filled in, the percentage bar never moves, and I then get a message box saying "sucessfully finished processing". When I then look at the resulting files, I get the following:-

VIDEO_TS.BUP 6KB
VIDEO_TS.IFO 6KB
VTS_01.BUP 12KB
VTS_01.IFO 12KB
VTS_01.VOB 0KB

Obviously there has been some sort of error which has not been reported.

In the howto page on DVD2ONE.com, the following statement is made:- "Although DVD2one should also work with files that are preprocessed (ifo mode), it is strongly recommended to use file mode."

What is the difference between ifo mode and file mode ???

Is there an option to log the errors to a file for viewing later???

I have troed this with several (about 9) different DVD's and get the same result every time. If anyone has also had this problem then I would be interested to know.

One last point, this program is (apart from the above problem) without a doubt the best program I have ever bought.

Keep up the good work. (Will the website incorporate a link for us to download bug-fixed versions ???)
