Hi - and welcome to the forum!

The fault seems to lie at the door of the Movie Factory files, since you report no trouble in compressing 'store bought' DVDs.

I wonder if I could ask you to use Movie Factory to create a very small example: a few minutes of footage and some chapter points with menu? The test should also include audio of the same format as in your larger example.

Try that with DVD2One and see what happens then.

If you still get the problem, redo the test but without the audio.

Let us know what happens.

-Pete

I can confirm that,i have had no luck trying to reprocess ulead or sonics dvd output, with any backup program. unfortunatly what you have to do is start over. in ulead video studio, you have to go into the template settings, select a lower bit and reprocess the mpegs. its been a while so i dont remember all the details but its not hard, just time consuming. start it when you go to bed. i gave up on all of that video capture/convert stuff a long time ago,a/v sync sucks. if converting vhs/8mm to dvd i really do recomend a standalone dvd recorder.

You sound familiar with this (and I share the take regards sync!).
For conversion (and so that editing on PC is possible), I've heard external capture units (like Canopus's) solve the sync-issues. Any recommend (I need to 'dvd-ize' a bunch of family vhs soon)?

i havent tried canopus but i have used pinnacle, ati, dazzle I & II,hollywood bridge and the new dvd creation station,i had a/v sync problems with all. but it seems to be pc specific, some people have problems some dont. my soloution is to do small captures and join them,it sucks. i have heard that its not an issue with mac.
good luck.

what size?

you say make a small example of the dvd movie factory files
but what size making a small sample is pointless if dvd2one doesnt need to really process anything. your sauin as a example make a 1 gig file then compress it with dvd2one isnt that point less?

I have the ADVC100 by Canopus, an external analog to digital box, and it works very nicely. No sync problems. The audio and video come into the computer digitally via firewire looking just like the output from a miniDV camcorder. So the computer doesn't need to sync an analog video and audio signal at all. There are now several ADVC products in the lineup, with varying features.
