Re: AML DVD+R

Depends on your drive... I got about 40 or so e3works branded discs back about the end of 2003, I found the discs still play well over a good year after I burned them on my Liteon 411 (although I burned them at 2.4x rather than 4x, seemed to work with more DVD players). The same discs would probably burn nicely at 4x on my NEC ND-3500 burner (if I had any left I'd test for you) - they're probably better than Princo or AN31 or the really cheap types, but top quality they sure ain't (hence the cheap cheap ).

2.4x burn on Benq 822 FW B3LC, set to 8x but it burned at 2.4x instead:

Also sold as MR DVD (AML 002), burnt and scanned on Philips1628P1 (Q2.2), which means no PIF as it can't be done on this drive. These are from one written at 4x, scanned at 8x. Booktype set to ROM.

Hey JayC30, Why not cross-flash to a BenQ 1640?

The firmware is updated quicker than phillips and you could also do full quality scans of your discs. Nothing can really be shown from just PIE results.

Forgot I even posted here. Simple answers are knowledge (I don't understand how to do it, therefore not going to risk it at the moment) and warranty as the drive is part of a complete system. Oh well no more scanning for me then until warranty expires.

Re: AML DVD+R

not sure where to put this, so I'll put it here. Here are some scans of some cheap media burns by various drives. They are burned at max as determined by the drive. My thinking is that average joe sees a good deal on a bunch of dvds, and will grab it; knowing good media from bad isn't knowledge that is out in the general media. So I've always wondered which drive to recommend to people who might not know anything about computers, but is always looking to cheap out. so without further adieu, here are the results with AML media

Liteon 165P6S; drive limited burn to 6x CLV; supports 4x-8x

the scan didn't finish, I assume that the burn was completely messed up after that point since it took a long time for any drive to recognize the DVD
