CloneDVD Discuss, Is there ANYWAY to rip a dvd with cyclic redudancy error? at Copy Movie forum; I am on a deadline (today) to get a copy of a disc made. I thought everything was fine (using DVD Shrink ), but I got the dreaded "cyclic redudancy" error during the final 3 minutes of encoding the disc. I cleaned the disc really well and ran it

Is there ANYWAY to rip a dvd with cyclic redudancy error?

I am on a deadline (today) to get a copy of a disc made. I thought everything was fine (using DVD Shrink), but I got the dreaded "cyclic redudancy" error during the final 3 minutes of encoding the disc. I cleaned the disc really well and ran it thru DVD Decrypter, but stopped it when it got 117 read errors. Is there any program that can blow thru the cyclic redudancy? The disc that typically don't cause a problem.
Thanks!

Try to read the disc with another drive. Some drives are better than other to read scratched discs

@ NMR1279,

With that amount of read errors the poor quality of video playback of the backup copy would be quit noticeable.

DVD Decrypter is a very tolerant ‘reading’ software program. As suggested by Forum Member geno888 using a different reading DVD device might improve your “reading” results.

Are there suface scratches or dings? Especially toward the outer endges of the original?

There are a few scratches....very light ones. I am sure one of them is the culprit. I would like to rip it anyway, but don't know what program will allow it. Is Unstoppable Copier any good?

Also, I don't have another drive to read it with, so that's not an option unfortunately....

Re: Is there ANYWAY to rip a dvd with cyclic redudancy error?

@ NMR1279,

If you believe the cause of your CRC errors is a scratched DVD disk suggest viewing the below links concerning removing scratches from CD/DVD.

http://www.mcgee-flutes.com/scratches.html

http://www.burningissues.net/how_to/...atchrepair.htm

The DVD Decrypter software program is a very tolerant ‘reading’ software program. I seriously doubt if you can find a software program that is going to do a better job of retrieving data from a DVD.

If using the above referenced procedures fails to remove the scratches from DVD then I would suggest attempting to find someone that has one of the noted good readers/rippers like the Lite-On LTD-163/Lite-On LTD-165/Lite-On SOHD-167T/Lite-On SOHD-16P9S DVD-ROMS. Quite possible one of these noted good readers/rippers might do a better job that the DVD devise you are currently using.

Best Regards,
bjkg

Re: Is there ANYWAY to rip a dvd with cyclic redudancy error?

I have used this stuff to successfully repair scratched DVD's before and it even works on Audio CD's as well. I had minor scratches that caused the head to jump and this stuff repaired it.

NMR1279,
Sorry so late to post back, had to go to work. Best device for resufacing scratched or dinged disks is the AutoMax.
