CloneDVD Discuss, Stuck in The Twilight Zone (literally) at Copy Movie forum; I've been having problems getting a backup copy of The Twilight Zone: 80's Season 1 to come out properly. When I go through the process, the quality meter comes out on the lowside of the yellow. The final product is heavily pixelated and jerky (though with perfect audio).

Stuck in The Twilight Zone (literally)

I've made copies with the needle in the red before, and they've come out better than this. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Re: Stuck in The Twilight Zone (literally)

Lycanthrokeith,

Three questions:

1. Put the original disk in the drive and use Properties in Windows Explorer or My Computer tell us the size readout (in GB's) of the "Video_TS" folder.

2. What brand and type (-/+R) and speed rating is the backup media your are using?

3. What speed did you burn the media at?

Best regards,
Whisperer

Re: Stuck in The Twilight Zone (literally)

Thanks, Whisperer. Okay, here goes:

1) 7.32 GB. I'm guessing something's up with the compression, then?

2) Dynex, +R, 16x.

3) Max speed, which for my burner is 8x.

I appreciate whatever help you can offer.

1. Yes it will be in yellow with that big of file.

2.Media is not of good quality. Try better media Verbatim, Tayio Yuden.

3.Try burning at a set speed instead of MAX. ie. Set to 8X instead of MAX.
People have had burn problems when setting to max.

Lycanthrokeith,
Agree with rolling56 on all points but one. Once you obtain good media, burn 8X rated media at 4X or burn 16X rated media at 6X or 8X for playing in a standalone player.

Break the "buy budget media" habit.

Re: Stuck in The Twilight Zone (literally)

On other forums, Ive seen alot of posts about pixelation or some sort of problems when using Dynex media -

I myself Stick to Taiyo Yuden, Ritek Ridata, and sometimes Verbatims - all +R's.

Out of those 3, the Tayos are the most expensive, however, they are TOP notch media - try them, you wont be dissapointed

Re: Stuck in The Twilight Zone (literally)

Dynex Suck! I bought 3 Dynex DVD+R DL's when they first came out because they were cheaper then the Verbatim's. Guess What? All 3 backups did not play on my player or in my PC, so $25 down the sh*tter.

I use Verbatim for every kind of backup now no matter the price.

Re: Stuck in The Twilight Zone (literally)

Strangely enough, I've done a lot of Dynex burnings (nearly two 100-spindles worth), and up until now, they've all come out perfectly. I've also had good luck with Comp USA's in-store brand.

I first tried Dynex since they're the Best Buy brand, and I happen to work at one. My discount cuts the price down by almost 2/3.

I'll give it a shot on a lower speed, and let you all know how it works out.

Thanks for the help, everyone.

Okay, it worked!

I ran it at 4x and split the disc in two. Everything came out perfectly. Guess it was overcompressed after all.

Thanks again for the advice, everyone.
