Some movies burn good, others don't

I have been testing various movies and programs including CloneDVD with AnyDVD, CopyToDVD and DVDXCopy Express.

I have a Mitsumi DW-7801TE burner, which I know is a low end burner and have been using Memorex 4X DVD+Rs which I know that some DVD+Rs have been said to be problematic.

Thing is that I've made perfect copies with some movies using the various programs yet other movies start having problems with skipping and giving a clean disk error near the very end of the movie.

Take Spiderman for instance. I have copied it with CloneDVD 1.3.11.2 using AnyDVD 3.2.1.1, I have copied it with CopyToDVD 2.4.11.253 and with DVDXCopy Express 3.2.1. All have the same issue with the last few minutes of the movie giving the error: clean disk where it skips. This is pretty consistent on all the bad burns. All the bad ones take up almost all of the disk space so my guess is it is the media and I should get some DVD-Rs of high quality for some tests. Anyone else have any thoughts?

Thanks

Cheap media is often worse near the edge/end of the disk.

If the problems happened all over the place I might suspect something else. But because it's always near the end I highly suspect the media is the problem.

re- Some movies burn good, others don't

I am having the same problem here, it is doing the same thing. I was on the impression it was related to the dvd player because it seem to work fine on my second dvd player. Will take a closer look now since I am using khypermedia instead of memorex or maxell. Anyone having a suggestion on what to buy as for good media? Here is a link where I buy all my media now.

Hey Ben just wondered if you meant that you have the same DVD burner or just the same issue? I am hoping it is just the media but if the other people that have the burner I do get the same issue then I'd wonder. I've bought some Ritek online and will await for them to arrive. I also tried the free disk that came with the burner, a Mitsumi brand DVD+RW and that disk didn't even work at all, my DVD player just spit it back out entirely. So bad media obviously makes a difference.

The Khypermedias are CMC's. If you get Media code MAG xxxxxx (4X) you should have good results. The other CMC's they use are fair to poor. They use about 4 different CMC media codes so your chances of getting good ones are not all that good . I would just spend a little more and get something more reliable. But thats just me.

Fixed

I simply went out and bought some DVD-R disks, Maxell brand which CopytoDVD read as being Ritek which I thought odd. Anyway it burned great and has given me some killer copies.

The moral of the story is to try different media and when pinch comes to shove get good quality.

If you check the media tests here you can find alot of info about who makes what media and the quality of it. There are only a few companies that sell their own media. TY, Misui to name a few, most are manufactured by others. That is why the media code is different from the brand name. None of the major brands actually produce the disks.
