Playing Ripped Movies on a Mac?

I've backed up a few of my fav DVDs on my PC system and have kept the files on my HDD. I transfered a couple of those files to my new Mac and then I wondered if I could watch them play off the HDD. I've double-clicked on the movie name which opens up about 15 smaller files but the movie doesn't play on the mac. Should I be able to view a ripped movie on a Mac, and if so... do I need some special software to do it?

BTW, I do own the full DVDs so I can do it again (Mac-style?) if necessary, but I Only want the movie and not the previews and other garbage.
