Olli - RE Pricing

Olli,

Yesterday I bought a key for Clonedvd from the Elby site assuming that the point of origin would have the lowest cost, and imagine my surprise when after I had paid, I went to Slysoft to get a license key for Anydvd and discovered that they charge conserably less fthan Elby for or CloneDVD on it's own, and even worse, they offer a discount if you buy both licenses.

It was too late to do anything about it as there appeared to be no way to cancel the transaction.

Why the large disparity in pricing?

Thanks

Wayne

Please note, that my response does not represent Elaborate Bytes AG or SlySoft or anybody else mentioned below.
It is just my very own personal opinion.

Well, I have already said in many posts here in this forum, that SlySoft offers "very attractive bundle pricing"...

Manufacturers (like Elaborate Bytes AG) must sell their products for their own "suggested retail price". They can't sell it cheaper, because this would p*ss off all other dealers and stores, and the dealers would abandon such a supplier.
The "suggested retail price" from Elaborate Bytes AG for CloneDVD2 is currently 39EUR online and 46EUR box incl. 16% VAT.
Dealers / resellers can make their own calculation, or they can give it away without earning anything (for whatever reason they see fit).
For example amazon.de currently sells CloneDVD2 box version as a "special offer" for only EUR 24,95 incl. 16% VAT. (You save 46%! is what they claim on their site)
SlySoft is a reseller like many others, and they can choose any price they like. Let's look at SlySoft's pricing: SlySoft sells it for 39,- USD (the USD is currently extremely low compared to the Euro), and AFAIK they don't need to charge VAT for their sales, because Antigua didn't sign any VAT agreement with other countries. Yeah, selling software from a carribean island has it advantages, even for the customers...
Compared to the amazon.de offer, SlySoft sells CloneDVD2 (single license, no bundle) quite expensive!
But the bundles at slysoft.com are the nice offer: As AnyDVD & CloneCD are both SlySoft products, they can "bundle" CloneDVD very nicely. I can't speak for them, but I assume that the bundle prices are a "mixed calculation", and that they don't actually earn much from selling the CloneDVD license with the bundle. The bundle is probably created to make their own products more attractive and competitive.

I am sorry, that you haven't looked up SlySoft's (or amazon's) prices earlier. But there isn't much that can be done about it. From Elaborate Bytes' point of view, saying that "I can buy it cheaper at SlySoft or Amazon" isn't really an argument for a refund.
Imagine, you go to Shop A and buy a DVD for 29,-. Then you visit shop B and see it for 19,-. Does shop A returns you your money, because shop B sells it cheaper? I don't think so...
At the moment where you made your "buy" decision, you probably thought that the product is indeed "worth its money". It probably is.

Re: Olli - RE Pricing

I agree with you completely, it was my fault for not researching. I was not chasing a refund, just the reason why, which you have ably provided.

Best wishes

Not to 'hijack' the thread, but why is it on Slysoft.com, they ONLY offer 1 year upgrade for the CloneDVD2, but AnyDVD/CloneCD is for free upgrades for an unlimited amount of time? It would make sense to me that sense you paid for the software, you should get updates for as long as the software is around.

CloneDVD2 is an Elaborate Bytes AG product, so Elaborate Bytes AG defines the rules (1 year free updates).
AnyDVD/CloneCD are SlySoft products, so they define the rules (lifetime free updates).
