Movies stop playing half way through

Although I have success 99% of the time, on a few this problem occurred. During playback of the movie on different DVD players, playback will just stop. This usually happens after the halfway point (don't know whether that's pertinent or not). On the bad movies, playback stops at the same points (multiple times during the movie). I can go to chapters after the "stopping point" and continue watching but there will generally be more places in the same movie.
I'm using AnyDVD and CloneDVD, latest versions, and doing main movie titles only. Hardware is Plextor PX-740a, Rev. 1.02. Media has been both Memorex 16x and Imation 8x DVD+R.
Has anyone had similar problem?

slester -

Usually problems like what you are describing are caused by the use of poor quality blank DVD Media. The below Web Link will provide information on High Quality DVD media.

http://forums.speedlabs.org/index.php?topic=23.0

If viewing the above referenced Web Link you will notice that some Memorex and Imation blank DVD Media is listed on the “Low Quality” media list. Close reviewing of the above referenced Web Link will provide information in determining if your Memorex and Imation blank DVD Media is in fact suspect “Low Quality” DVD media.

BeLooken, I looked at the lists and found both of brands I use only on the ASSOCIATED list under high quality. Could it be a fluke with a few particular discs?

Re: Movies stop playing half way through

I wonder if the stopping is related to arcoss protection?

I have found the following link to give a truer (IMO) rating of media from my experience..

http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

The speedlabs link in a previous post lists CMC MAG media as top class along with TY & MCC

Slester,

The purpose of providing the Web Link was to educate concerning MID (Media Identification Descriptor).

As explained in the referenced Web Link did you actually in fact check the MID (Media Identification Descriptor) of your blank DVD media using either DVDInfo or DVD Identifier? This is the way to check to see exactly what the blank DVD media you are using actually is.

Using the data in the Web Link provided by bubbles19 and either DVDInfo or DVD Identifier you will be able to determine the quality of your blank DVD Media. Generally Memorex and Imation blank DVD Media is poor quality blank media and should be avoided.

Re: Movies stop playing half way through

As a general rule, Memorex media is crap. If you want consistently reliable burns, use Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden disks purchased from reputable resellers such as rima.com or supermediastore.com.

You can also enable the "Verify" option in your burning application. This will ensure that all the data on your backup is readable, at least by your DVD-RW drive. This however doesn't guarantee that the disk will play in a standalone player, as they are sometimes more sensitive to poor quality media.
