I have made some practical research of this matter again and have come across at least two of my movies that if you make a backup of, without menu, just the main movie, the result is as follows:

1. Subtitle is displayed from the start, though in the DVD Player Setup Menu subtitles are set to off. (sic!)

2. When you turn off subtitle during playback the subtitle is still displayed. (sic!)

This issue really has to be addressed.
Yup, that's the issue I was talking about. It's been noted many times before and a fix was promised for a future version of CloneDVD. Hopefully we'll get a new version some day but I wouldn't hold my breath for it being soon. It's been a while since we've seen any action on CloneDVD development. All we can do is wait.

Re: Irritating Subtitles

hey alex thyl and SamuriHL,

no worries about apologizing, but i'm just glad that you noticed the problem I was having. A couple other people were only saying it was my DVD player, which it probably is too. BUt I noticed that when I didn't make menu's, which on most I did, it did happen to play subtitles...i didn't really notice about the menu thing until you guys mentioned it....and it is totally true. thanks for the help guys. hopefully CLONEDVD will make an upgrade to fix that problem.

Re: Irritating Subtitles

You COULD edit the output of CloneDVD to turn the subs off by default, but, you'd have to add commands to do it using IFOEdit or possibly PGCEdit. I've not done that myself so I'm not sure how easy it'd be to do that, but, it's at least possible. Probably more work than it's worth. Keeping the menu is one sure way to get it to work correctly. The menu usually doesn't take up a lot of room. USUALLY.

Re: Irritating Subtitles

haha, yah, I have no idea what IFOEdit and that stuff is, i'll probably end up breaking it because I'm dumb at that kind of stuff. I'm actually okay with leaving subtitles off for now, just making a DVD like a VHS movie that plays straight thru. Yah, the menus are pretty small in size usually too, so that is another option.

BTW, sorry for being out of the blue, but do you know how long is it going to be till DL discs get cheaper like 50 cents/disc? I've seen some verbatim's for like 2 bucks per disc when it's on sale. But I guess I was just wondering about the prices because I figure that pretty soon, they'll be a lot of tech companies that will start pumping out cheaper DL discs when the time is right and then the top quality brands are also goign to have to bring their discs down as well right?

Re: Irritating Subtitles

@ sack_12,

If you desire to acquire information on DVD Media suggest visiting the dedicated CD Freaks Blank Media Forum (http://club.cdfreaks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=33).

Learning how to use DVD editing utility programs like IFOEdit and PgcEdit is not that difficult. There is no all-inclusive backup software program that does it all and if you want your DVD backup copies exactly the way you want them you are going to need to lean how to use these programs.

Best Regards,
bjkg
