The infamous "source data too large" problem

OK. I've gotten this error from a few DVD's I'm trying to make a backup of. I used the DVDDL since using the DVD+5, or whatever it is, lowers the quality about 40% so the picture looks like it's having a digital seizure on the TV.

The file is under 7gb and the DVD I'm using is a Memorez DVD+R DL 8.5 gb disc, WinXP, and CloneDVD2.

Any suggestions???

OrgGl,
Memorsux. Don't even try the make the remaining ones work ... just throw them out. Only Verbatim makes reliable DL media.

Yip, only use Verbatim DL disc's, you could try the custom setting for the size, but i'm not sure to what to set it at, maybe somebody esle can give you it

OrgGl -

If you doubt the information that two knowledgeable informed Forum Members have provided to you concerning the documented substandard performance of Memorex CMC Magnetics Taiwan Media suggest that you use the Forum Magic Search button and conduct your own Forum search concerning Memorex Media.

Also suggest that you visit the CD Freaks Blank Media Forum (http://club.cdfreaks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=33) and conduct a search concerning Verbatim DL Media and you will find that your search results will reveal at this date/time Verbatim MKM0001/MKM003 Mitsubishi Kagaku Media is the only DL media that consistently provides quality error free results.

You will possibly find the two below Web Links informative in helping you identify known proven quality DVD Media.

I was just wondering if anyone else had any information. Don’t automatically assume the worst.

I’m not doubting anyone’s information. Instead of politely flaming me BEFORE I could reply to any of the new posts, going into a great extent about it, and telling me to “use the Forum Magic Search button” like I’m some sort of child, you shouldn’t have looked so deeply into the two sentences “Uh ok. Anyone else?”. Give the benefit of a doubt.

I was just wondering if anyone else had any advice. Because for all I know it could be the version of CloneDVD2 that glitched out on me. Common place software, from video games to burning software, has had various complications with my system in the past. In which, yes, I have looked them up, without posting, to see if there were any conflicts with other people.

For the record it was 1 (one) person that helped me first.

Despite all this mess, the links were helpful.
Thank you.

Whisperer1, thank you for your suggestion and reply.

Bjproc, ya I’ve used the custom setting for size a few times. Either way I’ve had to cut things out and the movie would either still be to big for my Sony 4.7gb disks, which I've learned are crap through experience, or wouldn’t work with the others, which everyone has mentioned on this thread and others, that are trash. Thanks for the idea. I’ll try that out on the Verbatim disks, that Whisperer mentioned.

Re: The infamous "source data too large" problem

OrgGl,
Not sure if I'm inferring your last post correctly but I'd like to say that your methodology in your first post was just fine. Set CloneDVD to DL if you are burning DL media. You don't need to set any custom sizes, etc.

If you still get the "source data too large" error when using the Verb DL's (with CloneDVD set to DL+R) then I'd uninstall CloneDVD and then reinstall it. Be sure you saved your key to an "off system" safe place.

Best regards,
Whisperer

also make sure your clonedvd2 is version 2.9.0.1 and make sure your dvd ripper and/or burner has the latest firmwares.

as whisperer mentioned, you say you have clonedvd set to use DVD+DL discs but the sony's you have are SL so clonedvd should be set to DVD-5

Evidently your and my definition of “Flaming” differs greatly.

I am glad that you have gotten a handle on your problem and have gotten your CloneDVD software program working properly.
