DVD does not play in player, but on burner

i just made a dvd-r copy of a kid cartoon movie (1 of the unknown ones that nobody buys, so theyre cheap) that i dont even think is protected and has 4.05 gb worth of content, so i can fully back it up on a regular 4.7 gb dvd-r. i followed the clonedvd and anydvd tutorial (with latest versions of the programs) and successfully copied the entire dvd into iso onto my computer (used second option), then chose third option to burn the iso with a Lite-On LDW-811S with no firmware. i can play the dvd on the burner on my comp, but when i try to play it in a toshiba dvd player (model:SD-1800KC), after 17 secs of trying to read the dvd, it gives me a disk error...does n e 1 know if i should use different software or r dere settings i did or did not use that keeps me from playing the movie in the player??? (btw, i use hypermedia general use dvd-r's)....thx in advance

I would try different media. That player should work fine with most good quality media.

1. try the disc in another standalone, that is known to play them all;

2. perhaps you wrote a dvd-r or +r and your standalone does not support this;

3. you really need good dvd's. The ones I use are ritekG04. What i've learn from using different brands is, that if a ritekG04 is not accepted by the standalone no dvd-/+r is accepted. They simply play on every dvd even on the really old ones

1. I think he is going to be hard pressed to find a dvd player that will "play them all". Especially fairly uncommon media code LONGTEN.001 or AN30..

2. His DVD player does support most QUALITY media "Ricoh JPNW01, Ritek G03/04, Princo, MMC are hit or miss.

3. Although the Ritek G04 are good, saying that they will play in every player is not correct. Most but not all.

Yep throw them all in the bin and buy decent media, this will likely solve your problems.

I do have a same problem but after some thoughts and experimenting I have come to conclusion that it is the stand alone player which is responsiable. In the short: if the disc is not "burned to the brim" (or very nearly so) then my stand alone player (Philips DVD 960) refuses to play it - it simply do not recognize the disc. Maybe Ollie could install some fixing option for that in new version? The simple solution would be to ad some garbage files with some other program but I do like CLONEDVD.

This is weird. I heard about problems, when the amount of data on a disc is less than 1 Gigabyte, but you are saying that 4 GB have to be filled up?
This is hard to believe.
Do you get similar results if you burn the files with another program, e.g. Nero?

In fact yes. And it happens also with some promo materials which I have received with less then 2 Gb burnt on them. BTW those discs, burnt with CLONEDVD played flawlessly on some other newer and cheaper players. They have MP3 capability though? Maybe something like force the manufacturer to make a more flexible firmware. I would love to see that Philips release a new firmware but, fat chance I think. However in my case if it is below 4 G it is a coaster for my player.

I am puzzeled. Did anyone else ever had such a problem?

Anyway, it shouldn't be too hard to add an option to CloneDVD to fill up the disc.
We'll think about this.

I have remembered to copy DVDINFO PRO info regarding bitsetting, so here it goes:

Media Information
Region information N/A not a DVD-VIDEO
Media code/Manufacturer ID RICOHJPNR01
Format Type UDF 1.02
Volume Name Dreamcatcher
Application id LBY CLONEDVD
Implementation id Stefan ID
Recording Date/Time (mm/dd/yyyy) 1/ 9/2004 19:03:48
Format Capacity 4.35GB(4.67GB)
Book Type DVD+R
Media Type DVD+R
Default DVD+RW book type DVD-RW
Default DVD+R book type DVD-ROM
Media Id Code Speed 4.0x 5540KBps
Available Write Descriptor CLV 4.0x 5540KBps
Available Write Descriptor CLV 2.4x 3324KBps
Data area starting sector 30000h
Data area end sector 22CD6Fh
Linear Density 0.267um/bit
Track Density 0.74um/track
Number of Layers 1

So it seems to me that CLONE DVD managed to change book type?

CloneDVD does not instruct the writer to use a specific book type. It seems to do this on its own somehow.

In other words: I have no idea what's going on.

My humble apologies. I have tried DVDINFO Pro in DVD-ROM drive and to my surprise:
Media Information
Region information N/A not a DVD-VIDEO
Media code/Manufacturer ID RICOHJPNR01
Format Type UDF 1.02
Volume Name Dreamcatcher
Application id LBY CLONEDVD
Implementation id Stefan ID
Recording Date/Time (mm/dd/yyyy) 1/ 9/2004 19:03:48
Format Capacity 4.35GB(4.67GB)
Book Type DVD-ROM
Media Type DVD+R
Media Id Code Speed 4.0x 5540KBps
Data area starting sector 30000h
Data area end sector 22CD6Fh
Linear Density 0.267um/bit
Track Density 0.74um/track
Number of Layers 1

As you can see you were wright of course. Alas this one still doesn't play in my player but this is media problem because I have tried another one and it works!
Keep the goog work! And please if it is not such a big thing include option to burn full disc as mentioned before.
